As we were getting ready to leave the Roman city of Conimbriga we noticed that in the cafe the staff was assembling a buffet lunch. It looked good so we stayed for lunch. The meal consisted of several different salads, desserts and main courses. Pay one price and return to the buffet as often as you like. As my wife and I were enjoying the food, I asked a lady "Who made the food?" and she blushed and then beamed when I complemented the spread, acknowledging that the staff made all the food. It really was the type of hearty peasant fare that I really enjoy in every country to which we travel. Highly recommended. Dishes were replenished as needed and there was plenty to eat. In fact, we ate so much that we elected to skip dinner that night and just had some wine and tapas. But for the modern setting we could have been eating in a native chef's home.
