We happened to visit this town when they had a college initiation parade. Incoming freshmen were paired up with seniors. Seniors dressed them up in outlandish outfits. It’s a once a year political parade much like sorority/ fraternity initiation. Cute town on a hill with places to visit st the very top. Enjoyed the food and culture
Terrific location. We were met by Carolina who showed us thru the apartment and explained everything we needed, gave us an overview of the neighborhood. The kitchenette was well stocked for our stay, markets nearby, very convenient to all the places we wanted to visit. Perfect for two couples. Look for tableware in the dining table drawer.
The apartment is beautiful, with all mod cons. The location couldn't be better.
And Rita left a marvellous array of treats in the frig.
I would heartily recommend it.
There were 5 of us....and this place was perfect. Two couples and a single all had a very spacious and comfortable room with modern clean bathrooms. Beds were so comfortable. The kitchen had everything you could possibly need...plus a large kitchen table. It is situated within a pedestrian only square which was pretty busy and active during the day but found it quiet at night after the bars closed. It was on the third floor which some might find hard. Rita was great, meeting us when we arrived and guilding us to the apartment. BUT parking might be tricky...if you are lucky you MIGHT find a spot close by.
Stayed in Summer of 2016. Centrally located yet in a quiet location on a small square. Top floor apartment, immaculate decorations and nice layout for a family of 4. Walking distance to all the sites of interest in town. Ines & Francisco could not have been more friendly. Very helpful with finding parking in the city and providing advice about restaurants etc. close to the apartment. We would absolutely stay here again if visiting Coimbra.
Casas do Arco is a narrow four story building with a bookstore on ground level and an apartment on each of the three floors. We stayed in Casa do Baldi, on the top floor. Our view to the cozy courtyard and the Arco de Almedina was the highlight, and we had fun watching the students and residents passing through the arch on their daily journeys. This area is pedestrian only, and quite hilly, so you must be fit enough to manage your luggage and carry it up the stairs to your apartment, as there is not an elevator. We loved the location and it was delightful not to have traffic noise! The courtyard below is a favorite spot for street musicians, and we were serenaded with guitar music every day. There are many restaurants, cafes and shops in every direction. The apartment itself is modern and beautifully decorated, in soothing greys and browns. The beds are firm and comfortable, with lovely bedding. There is a washing machine, a well equipped kitchen, and two sparkling bathrooms with showers. The wood floors and a few well chosen antiques give warmth and character to the neutral palette. This surely is the best lodging in Coimbra!
First, I have to thank Rita for meeting us and getting us settled in the apartment. She was so friendly and welcoming. She supplied us with breakfast foods for the next day. The apartment itself is right across from the Arco de Almedina, so a visit to the Torre de Anto is just a hop, skip and a jump away. It's also located just off the main street where you'll find restaurants, bakeries, and shopping. It's also walking distance from the University, Botanic Gardens and river, keeping in mind that in our everyday life, we walk a lot. The apartment itself is very comfortable and well appointed. But, again, I credit Rita for making our arrival so welcoming.
