Coaches from 17th century onwards – This is a unique collection – the largest and finest in Europe. There is exquisite gold leaf decoration in gold on some. Huge range, from everyday utilitarian carriages, to ceremonial carriages of great beauty, some belonging to Europe’s wealthiest royal families
Clear explanations in English of history of coach and use and types of coaches.

Having seen the crowds coming to the monastery right before the opening time, we decided to visit this cosy museum. You can really enjoy the exposition and take your time, as the museum is never too crowded, unless there are group visits. The carriages are really impressive, on the first floor you can admire the paintings of ancient rules of Portugal. Visit and enjoy!

Went to the museum thinking we would be in and out in about 30 minutes but we were very pleasantly surprised by the the exhibition of coaches! I personally downloaded the app on my phone to help me. Well worth a visit. We even missed the tram because we spent more time than we selected looking at the beautiful exhibits.

A wonderful collection of old (and 1 newish) stagecoaches from across europe which where given/bought and made by/to the old Portugese royal family. There is also the coach in which King Carlos was assasinated in 1908 (inluding bulliet holes) There is information on the history of each coach in 3 languages (Portugese, English and French) and it only costs 5 euros to visit.
The Museum is set on two floors and is wonderfully set out. A must visit when in Belem.
