First time to Cascais and very impressed with the hotel. The hotel was full but there were no queues for breakfast and there was plenty of choice of hot and cold food all very fresh. The rooms are large and very comfortable. Pool area was lovely with plenty of sun loungers, pool towels are provided which is an added bonus when travelling light. I would recommend this hotel and I will go back. Only fault is the charge for Wifi in bedrooms.

Room Tip: Sea view is amazing

The most positive aspects of this hotel are the staff and the location; the staff are very friendly and helpful, the hotel itself is in a great location with sea views and is a short walk away from the town of Cascais. However, I struggled to find anything else that was positive. When we came down for breakfast there was a queue down the corridor of at least thirty people waiting to get a table. Meanwhile there were empty tables in the dining room but there didn't seem to be enough staff to clear them and set them up again. I have never experienced anything like this in a hotel before. The breakfast itself left a lot to be desired, the omelette mixture came out of a carton and most of the breakfast food apart from the fruit (this was lovely and fresh) was of low quality. The coffee was undrinkable. Actually getting any food practically involved a scrum as there were so many people.
The hotel is incredibly dark (everywhere!) it felt depressing and like it was stuck in an 80's time warp.
The sea view room was big(but very dark!) and the bed was comfortable but the bathroom was very small, my husband was too tall to stand upright in the bath to have a shower but with some contortions and adjustments to his head and neck he did manage in the end! The towels were very worn and tiny and they weren't changed very often.
I don't know why the hotel has 4 stars, I don't feel this is a true reflection of the reality. However, it is reasonably priced, just don't expect any kind of luxury in the surroundings or the food and be prepared to queue for your breakfast table!

Room Tip: Choose a sea view room on the 6th floor

We have stayed at the Vila Gale Hotel in Cascais 3 times out of 7 visits to Cascais because of it´s fair prices and it´s fine location close to the center of Cascais, but still in quiert area next to the sea.
This hotel is not perfect and the drawbacks include their charging extra for your in room safe?? and extra foe WIFI???? WHO does that in 2014?
The people are terrible sweet and we had great rooms.
But I must emphazise the bar. Even the years we were in Cascais, but did not stay at Vila Gale, we still visited the bar for a pre dinner Manhattan, because we love the bar!! It´s not fancy looking. It has a very limited product line (in today´s bar scene). But it has personality! An example is long time bar tender Bruno, who adds charm and an old school feel to the place.
We´ll be back!

This is a 4 star hotel by Portuguese standards, but I think it's closer to 3 star, to do better means doubling the budget. The combination of location, price, facilities and service make it solid value for money in Cascais. I have only given 3 out of 5, but if the weather had been good we would have been happy to stay until the end of the week. My impression is probably clouded by the weather during our stay, which was rain, rain, and more rain.

They even told us when we checked out, that, weather-wise, it is better to be there in March than April (it's also cheaper!). We had booked for a week, via an Expedia web site, with payment at check out. We checked out after 2 days. The hotel was very accommodating about the early check out and I truly commend their attitude. Front desk service overall was exemplary.

The rooms and services are totally adequate, but there's no "wow" factor, they are spacious, very soberly decorated, and even have a kitchenette facility, so you could prepare your own food, if you wished. The beds are comfortable, the towels are worn out. The breakfast is all you can eat buffet, but the quality is functional, nothing more.

Room Tip: Sea View are more pleasant

Visited March 14, with my son, having never been to Cascais before. I thought the hotel was closer to the train station but it is about 20mins walk. Fine if you do not have luggage but easier to take a taxi due to cobbled streets and slightly uphill walk. I really liked the location, lovely scenic walk into town. All hotel staff were extremely helpful and pleasant, and thanks to Cristina Roxo for the help and advice when i missed my tour due to clock change, it was great! I had a classic room which was very spacious and clean. Safeusage and wifi in the room was and additional charge, i personally would rather have such charges included in room rate. wifi in public areas is free. There is a nice bar and large dining area and patio for drinks, breakfast was great with extensive selection of food and drink, including sparkling wine :-) We didn't use the pool area due off season. I would definately go back to this hotel.

Room Tip: i had classic garden room view, apparantly sea view is eur15 extra which would be worth paying when...

Just returned from Vila Gale Cascais, Arrived late and was pleased to see the buffet still open after 10.00 with all dishes replenished. We had a sea view room on the sixth floor, the room was very large. clean and quiet. The hotel is located right on the edge of town overlooking the marina and an excellent promenade. The train and bus stations are only a 15 min walk through town giving easy and cheap access to Estoril, Lisbon and Sintra. The staff are extremely friendly and the chamber maids managed to have the rooms cleaned whilst we were at breakfast. I had a few minor irritations i.e. a small charge for the room safe that i wasn't aware of, no iron / ironing board available to borrow, no free wifi in rooms. Overall these wouldn't stop me returning to Vila Gale.

Room Tip: look for sea view on higher floor away from lift

We stayed here on a timeshare exchange and it was great. We had a lovely big room over looking the sea and pool. The room was nicely furnished and we had a small kitchen which was good. They don't provide washing up liquid so bring some and also a dish cloth. They came in every day to make beds and empty rubbish. The only thing poor were the towels they were very thin. This is in a vey good location. The staff on reception were very helpful. I've never stayed in any time-share with such a good selection of TV channels 90 in all to suit every nationality. It is close enough to walk to the train station and get the train to Lisbon.
