“Superb position, exemplary service and excellent food”

This was our first visit to this part of Portugal and we could not have found a better spot - right on the sea and the last building on the edge of town but only a 5 minute walk to the centre. The staff could not do enough for us and the managing director Ana Maria was superb - a real iron fist in a velvet glove. We were very impressed by the food - probably the best hotel food we have ever had and a fabulous view from the dining room. The building is a great design with dining room glass sides that slide right back to open the whole thing up to the air and sea. Our bedroom was very comfortable with a great bed and fresh white linen which they will change every day should you so wish.

Room Tip: The suites at the front of the hotel have lovely balconies. We had room 206 which had the central ba...

The farol Hotel is an amazing boutique hotel. It's located in most buteafull place with a view to the Atlantic ocean.
An AMAZING resturant !!! you just have to eat there.

We've stayed at the Farol several times before and so were a little puzzled at the dip in service this time. It occurs to us that the problem might be that we visited out of season. The staff weren't particularly helpful (I had to ask a waitress to call a local bar where I thought I'd lost a coat - she told me that she'd ask reception to do me "that favour" but that she wasn't sure it was possible which was surprising when you consider that they market themselves as a five star hotel and this kind of basic concierge service should be as standard). We ordered a same-day laundry service with shoe shining and the girl that came to pick up the shirts was surprised to be presented with the shoes. She told us they didn't offer a shoe cleaning service. When we showed her the service in the room service brochure, she said she'd check, but wouldn't we rather that she find us a sponge so that we could clean the shoes ourselves? The whole thing was a bit surreal, especially when they brought the shirt we'd sent to be laundered back up to discuss what might have made it dirty at length. Sushi is overpriced and whilst perfectly acceptable, nothing special if you live (as we do) in a city like London where you can get really exceptional sushi on a regular basis. Room service took almost an hour to arrive and we were presented with a 40EUR bill for two (cold) toasted sandwiches and a plate of fruit. Breakfast was still relatively impressive and of course nothing can change the fact that the location really is outstanding. Ensure that you get a room with a sea view. They're out of this world. However, the whole experience was soured by lackadaisical staff which was compounded by them sending us to the wrong station at the end of our stay (an expensive and irritating mistake). A final note on the rooms. We've always stayed in designer rooms in the past and love them. We upgraded to a suite on the corner of the building this time and were quite disappointed. It's only slightly larger than the design room with a long corridor which really is wasted space and no balcony. Not worth the extra money (almost double the price). Stick with the design rooms. As newlyweds who'd brought another ten couples to the hotel for our wedding weekend, we'd vaguely thought we might receive some small gesture of thanks or special treatment (as we'd been offered this in the other Cascais hotels we approached with our custom). They told us as we were leaving that they'd usually give newlyweds champagne and chocolates but that they'd forgotten in our case, which rather begs the question of why they felt the need to assure us that all other newly married couples are given this treat when we weren't. As they didn't bother with us, I'd rather not have known. All in all, the views are amazing and the bar is a lovely place to sit and have a drink. Our stay wasn't a disaster but represented a marked deterioration in quality from our experience earlier in the year. I doubt we'll return, which is a shame, as we're often in Cascais visiting family.

Room Tip: Anything with a sea view will take your breath away - but don't bother with the corner suite

This is an absolutely fabulous location right on the rocks, the views are spectacular! The hotel decor is great, very modern, designer pieces and fun.
The only negative for us was the bathroom - it didn't have anywhere to put toiletries and the toilet didn't flush very well. I would expect a bit more from a 5 star hotel.
Another point was the 'smoking room' which was off the restaurant but also the room that you had to walk through to get to the pool. Walking through a could of smoke to get in and out the hotel is not pleasant for a non smoker.
The breakfasts were great and we had sushi in the restaurant one evening which was fabulous! Amazing views, great food and decor.
We went off season in November and it was surprisingly good weather!

Room Tip: Room 218 is right next to the elevator which is quite noisy. I'd try to avoid that one if possib...

This is one of the smaller hotels in Cascais but this is certainly no bad thing. It's in a beautiful location right on the waters edge but within a 5 minute walk of the town. Everything about the hotel was great but what made the whole trip was the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. Nothing was too much trouble. We had a great time!

Room Tip: Pick a room with a sea view. Awesome!

The staff at Farol Design Hotel provided an amazing experience for my wife and I. We added a note to our booking to let them know we had decided to stay at their hotel to celebrate a major life moment and they took the time to read it, ask us about it and accommodate our request for a room with a private terrace with ocean view.

The Mix and Sushi Design restaurants had excellent food with a great view over the ocean.

Overall the experience was amazing and memorable. My only negative was the bathroom, which is clean and nice, but a bit dated.

Room Tip: Room 104 has a private walk-out terrace with two lounge chairs to relax and two more chairs a little...

The location superb, staff very friendly and welcoming. We ate in the resturant, again food was superb together with the staff with amazing views over the ocean. The reception area, bar, pool and restaurant decorated to a high standard but our room 210, which had wonderful views, I felt was not 5 star. Our bigest upset was the awful smell in the room, we talked to reception a few times about it and though the hotel was full we weren't able to change rooms but I seriously think the owner should do something about it. I have since read other reviews I see this is a problem in other rooms. It was quite disgusting at times, it was as though a waste pipe was leaking under our floor boards. This is a big problem which needs fixing, please do something about it........

Room Tip: Get an ocean view but a room that doesn't smell
