“Exceptional guest house!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 May 2014

From the moment that we were first welcomed to the house by Sarah to our last afternoon chat with Mario, Suzanna, Sarah and Lillliana, our experience at the Alquimia was exceptional. The house is modern, efficient and comfortable as well as beautiful. We loved the size and design of the pepper room and enjoyed having the balcony.

The breakfasts were delicious and generous, with a different local Portugese sweet every day. The jams were outstanding. Such a lovely treat after our morning runs! The espresso maker, the wifi and the daily housekeeping service were very much appreciated. The house and our room were always impeccably clean.

The location was perfect - a short walk to Cascais and its paths, a nice bike ride to Guincho Beach. Lisbon and Sintra are both easily accessible by train or bus.

I have to say that what really made our 6 nights at the Alquimia such a great introduction to Portgual for us was the people - Sarah, Lilliana, Mario and Suzanna. With their list of recommended restaurants we ate typical Portugese every night and enjoyed every bite. Their maps and hints about local attractions in Cascais, Lisbon and Sintra were extremely helpful and all that we needed to get us where we were going - even bus schedules!

The Alquimia offers the perfect balance of hospitality and privacy. We highly recommend the Alquimia experience to anyone visiting Cascais or the area and we wouldn't hesitate to return.

What a great B&B, really modern designed house with beautiful details to decor and furniture and home comforts. Everything was really beautiful . We enjoyed resting on the balcony in the sunshine.
Breakfast was tasty, interesting jams lots of good coffee. The house is10 mins from all that Cascais has to offer, we hired their bikes and went to the coast paths visiting the Paula Rego museum of art which is really good ,also along the Atlantic coast and a bit further afield .
But what made it really special was the warm welcome from Mario and Sarah, helpful with suggestions about the local area and genuinely lovely people. Highly recommended by us .

Room Tip: we stayed in pepper room and the balcony was a real bonus..

Excellent service and a nice relaxing place to stay in Cascais as a base.

Modern, tastefully designed and comfortable accomodation.

Very friendly staff Susana, Mário and Sarah who gave me lots of help and kindness.

Nice tasty breakfast - loved the freshly squeezed orange juice and cake !

Wonderful relaxing atmosphere and good value for money.

Nice to sit out under the orange tree.

Highly recommended.

We stayed here for 3 nights in July 2013 and didn't want to leave! Warm, generous hosts and modern contemporary, spacious rooms and very comfortable, clean inviting indoor and outdoor common areas for relaxing. Fresh, homemade and tasty breakfasts each morning. All the extras really made it for us (fridge stocked with cheap local beers, nespresso machine, homemade jams!) Though a 10 minute walk from the centre of Cascais, we loved it and would highly recommend this B&B as an ideal base for exploring the surrounding areas. Susanna, Mario and Sara were extremely helpful in helping us with our onward journey. Many thanks to all.

Room Tip: Balconies are great!

We spent 4 nights in Alquimia at the beginning of October. We agree with all the previous reviews, e.g excellent accomodation, lovely breakfast, location good. We especially liked the little extras that made it perfect, for example the expresso coffee maker, fruit at anytime of day, different portuguese delicacies each day at breakfast, bicycles available & daily maid service. Sara, Mario & Susanna were very friendly and really helpful in giving advice and sharing their local knowledge of places to visit. All in all we wouldn't hesitate to recommend this guest house to others, it is excellent value for money.

Room Tip: We liked the oxygen room as it had a balcony & bath as well as shower

We had a really nice time staying at Alquimia; the house is really unusual and very modern in design, with rooms themed to the different elements (earth, fire, water and air). Colour schemes are very attractive and the whole place is very spacious, comfortable and spotlessly clean. The breakfast is really fresh and tasty with the best of Portuguese cheeses, fruit, juice and homemade jams - and the most important ingredient is the wonderful personal service from the always good humoured and friendly Sara, Mario and Susanna. They really want guests to have the best possible experience of Cascais and go way beyond the call of duty to provide it. They give advice about places to visit and will book fabulous and really good value restaurants. We ran into complications trying to book a rental car and Sara resolved it all with great ease. The house is only ten or twelve minutes walk from the centre and is nice and quiet compared to noisy hotels. We would thoroughly recommend it; we chose it on the basis of reviews on this site and were more than delighted with it.

Room Tip: Have a look at the website and see which room suits you best, we had one with a balcony which was re...

We stayed at Alquimia guest house for 5 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. This guest house is certainly great value for money as the price included not only a lovely, clean and well furnished room (we stayed in The Pepper Room) but also breakfast every morning. Breakfast was especially enjoyable as each day we were given a different Portuguese delicacy to try in addition to homemade jams, cheese and the buffet breakfast which consisted of bread, ham, cheese, cereal, etc. We even had a daily maid service which also provided us with a replenished bottle of water every day. Alquimia is in a perfect location as it is only a 10/15 minute walk away from the centre of Cascais where the beach, supermarket and numerous restaurants are situated. Moreover, Alquimia is easily reachable from Lisbon airport as you only need to take a train to get there. The train station is also about a 15 minute walk from the guest house. Many thanks to Mario, Susanna and Sara for making our stay so satisfying. They were very welcoming and helpful in regards to telling us about which beaches and restaurants to go to!

Room Tip: We stayed in The Pepper Room which was a lovely room, beautifully decorated and had a balcony.
