I've been on many a short break, both at home (UK) and abroad, but my stay at Quinta Colina Flora made this one of the very best. Of course the surroundings are superb with plenty to see and experience. The countryside and seascapes are wonderful and there are historical sites in abundance in the area. However, what made the stay at QCF so special for me was a combination of the peace and quiet, beautiful gardens and accommodation and excellent welcome by James, Aasta and their adorable dog. The hosts can't do enough for their guests, and their free shuttle service to local restaurants is very much appreciated. Aasta's fantastic culinary skills were also very much in evidence and appreciated at breakfast with the abundance of home cooked goodies and the most delicious muesli ever. A very big thank you to James, Aasta and Lucca the dog, for a very happy stay (30 Jan to 2 Feb) and a heartfelt recommendation to Trip Advisor readers to visit QCF; you won't regret it. (PS I have rated the fitness centre in error below - there is no fitness centre, so please will readers ignore and forgive this error).

Room Tip: My friend and I stayed in Rose Lodge, a converted barn separate to the main house. Spacious accommo...

This Guesthause is as Eco genuine, honest, enjoyable and wellcoming as all the photos view! And each visit surprise by something new, which further contributes to more and more superlatives for this cosy and friendly ECO Guesthause with flowers and a lovely poolgarden. This is for sure a little paradis the year around in the middle of Cabo da Roca and Sintra with lots and lots of lovely green mountain and seaside walks. It's rare to see so much beautiful scenery and concentrated beauty that exists around Colina Flora and this affects the whole visit and experience in a magical way.

I stayed at this wonderful guest house/B&B in early January for just 3 nights. My room, at the top of the house had views of the ocean from one side, and Lisbon in the distance from the other. Even though most of the time i was there it was raining and misty, it felt like i was residing in a totally quiet and calm oasis. The owners, James and Aasta were the perfect hosts, always on hand to offer advice, a warm fire to sit in front of, and a fabulous breakfast buffet - everything from home made cakes, to the fantastic 'secret recipe' oatmeal! This is the perfect place for hibernating in the winter and relaxing, reading, maybe even writing! I can imagine that when the season is more clement that this is the perfect place to spend a couple of weeks sampling Portuguese hospitality and the beautiful sights. I'm definitely returning - you should check it out.

Room Tip: All the rooms are different - my 'top of the house' room afforded amazing views, but others...

What is an American couple from New England doing in rural Portugal? Running a totally charming B&B, of course! James and Aasta are wonderful hosts. They call each and every guest by name, which makes you feel at home from the minute you arrive. The grounds are impeccably manicured and boast a wide variety of trees, shrubs and flowers. We had a very large room on the second floor of a small building adjoining the owner’s house. It was decorated in pretty shades of white and purple and had gorgeous views of the sunset. On the first night, James drove us into town to eat in an excellent restaurant. On the second night, Aasta cooked a delicious vegetarian meal, which we shared with the other guests. The homemade muesli she serves for breakfast is also outstanding. There is an honesty bar in a little garage next to the pool, where you can buy wine or beer to drink in one of the many seating areas around the property. Colina Flora is very environmentally friendly and even their cute little dog Lucca is a hypoallergenic Coton de Tuléar!

Our stay at Colina Flora was sublime. Our room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable ensuring a great nights sleep. The grounds of the house were beautiful - the garden is lovingly tended and the pool looked like a lovely place to hang out (although it wasn't quite warm enough to tempt us to take a dip in November). Aasta is a fabulous cook, breakfast each morning was a delight with homemade granola and cakes, fresh bread and fruit salad, simply delicious! James was an excellent host, giving us advice on the places we wanted to visit each day; how to get there, where was best to eat, top tips for the attractions etc. There is plenty to see in the local area - we hired a car but if you didn't want to go too far afield you wouldn't necessarily need one, there are a couple of bikes you can borrow for free. The local restaurants were fabulous! You wouldn't expect them to be so good in what seemed like such a quiet area, but they were. All round, I wouldn't hesitate the recommend Colina Flora to friends and family.

Room Tip: We chose the Marigold room for its private terrace with open fireplace. We spend at least a bit of e...

Aside from being in an absolutely gorgeous, picturesque part of the world, Colina Flora was a totally charming, friendly place to stay run by some of the best hosts (James and Aasta) I've come across. The Inn is within short reach (by bus or taxi) of several cool towns and cities (including being only 35-40 minutes from Lisboa) and the beach. It is within a huge national park, so things like biking and hiking are also readily available. Everything was clean, the vegetarian-friendly food was great and James was more than willing to help us set up several day trips, find us directions, make reservations etc. It really made things so much easier to have someone like him helping us out. In short, I have nothing negative to say and I would certainly return. Thanks James and Aasta for a great vacation!

,High above the village of Peneda below, the Colina Flora is a lovingly created house and gardens.

The bedroom we enjoyed on the top floor had 360 degree views from the coast to the mountains. The room was twice the size of a conventional hotel bedroom and was beautifully furnished.

James and Aasa could not have been more attentive, and the vegetarian dinner(you can have fish if you want) was exceptional. Likewise the breakfasts with an array of options featuring local organic produce.

An individual and "querky" experience, not to be missed.

Room Tip: Room at the top is superb
