“A good spot in Estoril !”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 September 2011

Well positioned near to the sea front and rail station to Lisbon. Staff very friendly and helpful but noise transmits through the building too easily and the beds are rather too firm. The rooms are a little spartan for 4* but generally clean. Meals, couldn't fault them either in the restaurant or the buffet. Excellent choice for both buffet and breakfast.
We wouldn't like to pay full rate but yes we would recommend it otherwise.

Room Tip: Avoid those above the front door. Too much noise from late revellers using the casino.

We´ve stayed at variour Vila Galé Hotels : Ericeira, Coimbra, Lagos, Praia. On a family wedding in Cascais, we decided to stay at the Estoril Vila Galé. Was a very pleasant surprise. Had a upgrade on our hotel room and were offered a bottle of wine for dinner. Barmen very friendly. Reception staff very delightful. Was a ver pleasant surprise. We will definitely return!

Room Tip: sea side view - excelent

Stayed here for 3 nights after having spent 2 nights in the Holiday inn in Lisbon. Paid £75pn for the Holiday Inn but £115 pn ( this was after a discount of £30)for here- yes I did check all the sites before booking ! Was expecting a lot more than we got , room comparable with holiday Inn but no teamaking facilities, breakfast not as good. There are only a few rooms with balconies -about 14? Yes nice walk to Cascais and loads of eateries around there and atmosphere but in Estoril ,2 restaurants and poor food and no ambiance. The lift was also too small.

This hotel is definitely not a 4 star. This hotel has nothing to reccommend it. It is dated, stuffy, and the rooms are not great with poor standard of TV and very limited TV channel choices. The beds are uncomfortable and creakey.
We asked for a room with sea view, we got a room looking down a dirty alley.
The quality of food at breakfast was sub-standard, a 1 star hotel would do better.
The swimming pool is really small, and the small gym in the basement wanted 7 euro from each guest per day in order to use it !
The location is close to the beach, but so are nearly all the hotels along this stretch of se front.
The thing I most enjoyed was checking out at the end of the week - NEVER AGAIN.

Although this hotel is a bit basic and anonymous the rooms are big, clean and airy and we had two connecting rooms for a family of four which was great. The pool is small and there are not really enough sunbeds or shelter but the location across the road from the beach means that you don't really mind. Estoril beach is smashing and much less crowded than Cascais. The hotel is across the road from the train station so handy for travelling into LIsbon. The breakfast was good - buffet style with loads of choice. Overall a good, basic hotel in a super area.

The hotel was just what you'd expect for a 4 star European hotel, clean, reasonable sized rooms, in fact nothing to complain about. But looking for something EXTRA, well the staff were friendly, some of the dining room staff were really welcoming, probably accounting for why we stayed for the buffet (€20) three nights out of seven.the food served was good with a great variety, we weren't expecting fillet steak for that price, which of course we didn't get, but never disappointed, as opposed to eating out where we were badly let down. If, by the way, your weight watching be careful, for the desserts were delightful. reception were also very helpful on a few occasions we sought advice/help. The bar which was beautifully designed was a bit flat, rather a lot flat. sad because it was so attractive. We did not eat in the steak restaurant though we noted it was popular later in the evening.

Do I have any criticisms, well yes, no entertainment was supplied, though this is not unusual, maybe that accounted for the empty bar. as the location was as good as was possible in Estoril. The other mild disappointment was the pool. small, though the main problem was the perpetual high wind for which I'm not blaming the hotel.

The main problem was the lack of atmosphere around the town. No buzz at all. we did attend the huge casino, 100 meters away, was quite a sight, very impressive design, but was a curiosity visit as we don't gamble, enough vices without that.

The hotel was a great base to visit other attraction. a book of ten tickets €16 to visit Lisbon 25 minutes, interesting city, and Sintra a wonderful attraction, would recommend a visit. Also Cascais is an attractive tourist town, some two kilometers away.

Overall I would recommend the hotel and if I have given the impression that estoril is unattractive let me disabuse you of that opinion right now. The beach is very attractive with some great restaurants and a wonderful promenade that stretches for maybe 8 kilometers. flat wheelchair friendly, witha good access to toilet facilities.

Overall a very civilised feel-safe place to be.

Room Tip: looked at a number of rooms, could find nothing to differetiate.
