“Great for golf lovers”
Reviewed 20 March 2014

Fantastic location, distinguished mainly by absolutely excellent service. Swimming pool and beach at hand. The hotel restaurant is a very good options, but other restaurants are quite close to reach. Good food even at the bar. A paradise for golf lovers. Best place in Estoril.

This is a very nice, old hotel, a true palace! The room was spacious and had a very comfortable bed - i stayed 2 nights and I slept wonderful. The concierge was very nice and helpful - and you can see him in a James Bond Movie, as the hotel was a J.Bond-location for" On Her Majesty's Secret Service". You can eat late in the bar, no problem. On the outside is a beautiful pool. Unfortunately i could not use the spa - so i have to come back! :) And it's only a short walk from the beach, from there you can walk all the way to Cascais (only 30 Minutes).
Only downside point: the WiFi is often disconnecting and you have to connect with passwort etc. againg.

A true 5 star hotel with lovely staff. Our room was lovely and the Spa fantastic after a days golf. A short walk to restaurants and bars was nice and a fantastic casino is on the doorstep. The hotel restaurant was of the highest quality and a great swimming pool outside. Very short walk to the beach and lots of shops and facilities. The hotels biggest asset is it staff. I have never been made so welcome anywhere in the world. I have booked to go back again in November this year and would also like to take the family.

Room Tip: A room overlooking the gardens and swimming pool if you can get it.

This is a grand old hotel that values it's connection with the high and mighty of days gone by. The hallway is lined with pictures of (mostly minor) European royalty who have stayed at the hotel or attended functions there. The rooms, though not overly spacious, are tasteful, well-equipped and very clean. Our balcony opened directly onto the park and had a partial ocean view as well. The hotel is a 5-minute walk from the beach across a busy road and through the train station underground passageway, so it feels a little isolated. This is also due to the fact that Estoril isn't really a town for visitors. Cascais (a pleasant 20-minute walk along the beach or 5-minute train ride away) has much more to offer in that regard.

The hotel has this old world charm and a long history of serving royal families and the rich. Very old European ambience but with all the modern amenities you would expect -- minibar, bath tub, TV, (although, disappointingly, they didn't have coffee/tea facilities in the room). Fancy and near opulent, I would say. Definitely not a modern, chic establishment. You feel like you have to be very quiet walking through the corridors and be on your best behavior -- so I don't know if it's suitable for families with small children. I didn't see any during my stay there.

Having said that, I enjoyed the experience thoroughly of being served like a queen, the serene atmosphere, the small but lovely buffet breakfast (which has a section for special dietary needs, too). Talk to the friendly concierge, and you will discover the rich history of the hotel -- it's true that spies used to frequent the hotel and that a Bond movie was filmed here! The hotel is just rich in tradition and in "doing things right"!

At this time of year, there's nothing much to do in Estoril (It' very busy in the summer, they say). Perhaps the quiet was due to the off-season (I was there in early Dec, temperatures were about 12 degrees C). The beach is just across the street from the hotel (accessible via an underground walkway) but it's cold this time of year. There is the casino within walking distance and it's the biggest in Europe, they say. There are a few cafes and restaurants that you can easily walk to.

The hotel is near a train station that can get you to the touristy town of Cascais (4 mins by train, or 20 mins if you walk along the seaside promenade) or the more happening Lisbon (20 mins by the same train). It's very easy to travel from Estoril by this train.

Cascais has a range of seafood and Indian restaurants, many souvenir shops, cafes and fashion boutiques. Walking along the cobble-stone streets and exploring the small town is nice, but don't plan on spending more than an afternoon there.

Lisbon has more variety in terms of restaurants, shopping and sightseeing. The train's last stop from Estoril is in Lisbon city and right from the station, it's nice to walk around, although beware, Lisbon is called "the city of seven hills" for a reason. Steep roads abound but you can use it as a reason to take frequent rests at the many quaint and cozy coffee shops or patisseries or what they call there "pastelaria."

All in all, Palacio Estoril Hotel was a lovely, memorable place to stay in between Cascais and Lisbon.

We stayed here after a river cruise. It was a beautiful hotel located in Estoril, right by Cascais. The lobby and restaurant area was beautiful, very charming. The staff were very helpful. Our room was beautiful and pretty big. The bathroom was very nice and updated. It was an easy walk to the oceanfront promenade. It is also right next to the Casino which is a nice walk even if you don't go into it. The gardens leading up to it are very nice. Overall, I really liked this hotel.

Room Tip: See if you can get a room facing the pool.
