Sul is located in the Baixi district at the heart of Lisbon. It is a relatively small but atmospheric restaurant decorated in warm colours and timber furniture.

Service was very friendly and it was helpful that the staff spoke English and provided an English menu. The menu was short and focussed on meat. I chose the lamb ribs with peppermint and banana purée because I had never heard of a dish like that before and doubted I would again. It was weirdly delicious and I recommend it. The rest of the family chose sirloin cooked on a hot stone. This meant that the meat arrived at the table raw on a wooden board with an inset sizzlingly hot stone and some condiments - taking cooking al minute to a whole new level. The meat was tender and tasty and everyone loved cooking it themselves.

This is a restaurant that cares about the quality of its food and the overall experience it provides its customers.

It offers good value and great, Portugese cuisine with a touch of the bohemian.

We stumbled across this place on a Saturday evening, the interior caught our eye and to be honest the whole meal was great, the starter, wine and main course (sirloin) served on a hot rock made for an throughly enjoyable experience. Desert perhaps not quite so good, the Chocolate sponge was pretty dry but that's minor in the scheme of things. Chatting to the owner it's obvious she has a passion for the place and that's so important. Try it, I doubt you will feel let down and certainly won't feel hungry on the way out.

Stopped into this place on a night out in Lisbon and absolutely loved it. We only had main courses but everything on our plates was amazing. The menu doesn't have much of a selection but there is something for any meat eater! The wine was good value and delicious. Sul is definitely worth a visit when in Lisbon.

We often go for the TripAdvisor or if lacking Internet the Lonely Planet recommendations. Sul features well in both cases, but this time we were dissapointed. The interior is nice, a little "different". Service, fair enough though not very friendly. But, I regret to say it, the food was the least appreciable we had in Lisbon. We both went for the cod with breadcrumps. The fish was much too salt, dry and tough. The accompanying stew was totally out of place in my humble opinion. We didn't try anything else, we'd had enouh. Maybe other dishes are better, but the cod was, well, almost awful.
