Sul is located in the Baixi district at the heart of Lisbon. It is a relatively small but atmospheric restaurant decorated in warm colours and timber furniture.
Service was very friendly and it was helpful that the staff spoke English and provided an English menu. The menu was short and focussed on meat. I chose the lamb ribs with peppermint and banana purée because I had never heard of a dish like that before and doubted I would again. It was weirdly delicious and I recommend it. The rest of the family chose sirloin cooked on a hot stone. This meant that the meat arrived at the table raw on a wooden board with an inset sizzlingly hot stone and some condiments - taking cooking al minute to a whole new level. The meat was tender and tasty and everyone loved cooking it themselves.
This is a restaurant that cares about the quality of its food and the overall experience it provides its customers.
It offers good value and great, Portugese cuisine with a touch of the bohemian.
