“Nice place with fadu”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 March 2013 via mobile

It is our first experience in listening fadu, so we have nothing to compare to. The service is good enough, waiter was polite; food was tasty, but the salad had too much oil(i mean really too much); fadu was nice.
The startes, that was brought without order were included to the check (the total cost is 7 euros).

We've been waiting for check aprox. 25 min - during that time waiters offered deserts, but did not bring the check.
Fadu played two times - four or five songs, the breaks were very long - most of the time the music played from the audio system.

“OK for the fado”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 March 2013

Not the best food, however not the worst we had! Service was friendly and we enjoyed the 5 Fado singers and the 2 excellent musicians - we felt this was a less commercial way of experiencing fado. They do not take cards - common in Europe in these difficult times in our experience.

“Rip off. Bad value for money.”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 March 2013

We (4 friends - 2 of them portuguese) had a terrible experience in this restaurant. The food is the only acceptable thing. The service is bad, the owner tries to rip you off at every chance. She proposed and insisted on the most expensive items on the menu. When the check came the sum (which was done manually) was wrong off about 20€. Only when the waitress noticed we were reaching for the calculator did she came running back to our table to say that she had made a mistake. At the same time, a couple on the other table was asking us if we got their bill since they were being overcharged as well. Very unethical and shameful for me, since I'm portuguese in a restaurant targeted for tourists.

“Don't waste your time or money!!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 January 2013

Biggest rip off of our trip.
Beautiful looking restaurant but something not quite right with the staff/owners.
Live music not so great, food horrible and extremely over priced.
We ordered the white fillet fish and it was practically packet bought frozen fish fingers, some mushy rice and a simple salad, for €15!! A €4 meal down the street would be much more worth your while.
For some dodgy reason they don't except card payments, and don't tell you until you receive the bill. even though the restaurant looks quite up market.
Staff were friendly enough,
Do not recommend!!!

Thank Libby H

“Tourist TRAP, through and through”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 December 2012

We were headed to Sao Antonio d'Alfama but popped in here instead with the promises of local music. The Fado isn't that great here as it is (how good can it be when the FRICKIN' maitre'd is one of the fill-in singers?!) and the food and service (especially for the price) is awful. The starters (brought without ordering, though thats almost expected if you're noticeably a tourist in Lisbon) are stale bread and a bad tuna salad-style thing -- and it will cost you €7. The seafood rice tastes like it should taste like something but it doesn't, and the prawns are too small to be local (or are just very, very low quality). The pork with chestnuts and potatoes (a local dish) tasted of nothing but lemon. Just lemon. It was awful.

The worst however, was what happened when we tried to leave. We clearly hadnt ordered enough for their liking and after asking for the bill twice, we were brought a plate of desserts (in the hope that we'd order one) and then we waited another 20 minutes despite flagging down our waiter a couple of times. We contemplated leaving just to see what would happen. Just terrible. Furthermore, though we weren't personally pestered, we watched the maitre'd pester other patrons with Fado CDs as if it were a sidewalk performance.

The only upside about this place is they don't charge for the music. As local Fado can run you €10-€30 before drinks or food, this place could possibly be a way to get your Fado fix without spending a ton of dough -- just be prepared to fight your way out the door if you don't spend enough...
