Aside from the fact that the apartment is superbly well equipped, spotlessly clean, and beautifully decorated, and the welcome and explanations of our host were perfect, it is the view that makes it.
There is a Mirador nearby that people flock to because of the view, and this is actually about 100 metres below the apartment. The castle, which is another viewpoint that people flock to (and pay to enter), actually has its view of the river obstructed - by this apartment.
It is simply fabulous. The river and the whole of Lisbon stretches out In front of you, from bridge to bridge and Christ the redeemer.
Set atop of a hill it is no place for the unsteady or who have difficulty walking, and the parking is poor or expensive, but that is the downside to staying right in the heart of it.
Word of warning though, its not just the trams that have dodgy characters on them. The 727 bus to the top of the hill (which is very useful as it saves a tiring walk), is preyed on by pickpockets. They target the full busses, like when its raining or when people are strapper hanging, so if you see a group of people boarding and trying to cram past you, hold on to your wallet.
