The National Coach Museum displays many of the royal and Roman Church Clergy's horse drawn coaches. They are beautifully carved and ornate. This Museum is included in the Lisbon Card and is free with that. If you do not have the Lisbon card, it costs 6 euros for adults, 2.5 euros for youth and senior. Children under 12 are free. The first Sunday of each month is free as well. It is open 10 Am to 6 pm Tuesday through Sunday and Closed every Monday. It is also closed January 1, Easter Sunday, May 1, June 13 and December 24 and 25. It is close to the Geronimo Monastery and one of the most interesting ways to travel to the Geronimo Monastery is by horse draw carriage. It didn't cost too much and saved the feet. The carriage can hold up to about 8 people, I'm guessing.

We enjoyed our time at this museum. Great history of Portugal to be found here. It was easy to navigate and had english explanations for all the coaches. While the museum was not crowded when we visited, it is so big, that you could easily go and have a good experience even if it was busy. It takes about an hour or so to wander through. Nice gift shop below. Easy walk from the other Belem monuments.

Beautifully displayed and quite a collection of elaborate coaches well maintained. Excellent history through the years of their use by royalty and what became public transportation as well. You’ll be wow’d for sure.

This is an amazing collection of coaches in remarkable condition. Excellent historical descriptions written in several languages accompany each of the coaches. Definitely worth the visit. Senior and student tickets are half price with identification. If this is the last stop on your visit to Belem, there is a #15 tram stop less than a block from the museum.
