So glad we found this little gem of a hotel as our base for visiting Lisbon. Less than a couple of minutes walk to the underground train and then a couple of minutes ride and you are in the center of the city...so ideal!! Also great bus links. The hotel is small and clean with nice rooms and very decent prices. The morning buffet was a great addition and provides everything you need for a good breakfast! The staff at the hotel were incredibly helpful, providng us with maps and great information about what to see and where to go. We were on a road trip from Italy and having a few mechanical problems with the car. The hotel staff, were so very helpful with this too. One receptionist, Diogo Martins, even helped us find a local mechanic and our problem was solved effortlessly! Diogo also recommeded great places to eat and visit. His English skills are suberb as were the other receptionists we spoke to, so communication was no problem. If I am lucky enough to be in Lisbon again, I would definitely stay here again and have no problem recommending this hotel to anyone wnating a good value for money hotel with excellent transport links to visit Lisbon. Great hotel and great staff!! Thank you.

Well, we've stayed 3 times, now, at Hotel Do Chile, so it's time for a review. We spent one night here at the end of a fall trip to Portugal with friends, and book-ended the ends of a spring trip with my 90+ -year-old parents; 3 nights at the beginning of the trip, and 4 more at its finish.

So...we're now "old hands" at the Hotel Do Chile. As mentioned elsewhere, its location is great! Only a few Metro stops from the airport (or a very reasonable taxi ride, if you have lots of luggage), and only a few more to Martim Moniz, in the heart of downtown.

As well, the nearest cross-street is on the 706 bus line, which takes you south on an interesting wander to the Cais do Sodre railway station to Cascais and Estoril and, going the other way, north and then south again to the Santa Apollonia station in the east end of downtown. Similarly, the main street one over from the hotel (Av. Almirante Reiz) carries the 708 line, which, like the Metro, goes south to Martim Moniz, where it links up with the minibus up the hill to the castle, and goes north to the Parque Nacoes with the new Oriente rail station.

So you can see the H Chile is strategically located. In addition, it's in a great walking area, with plenty of squares and small parks, and many, many cafes and small restaurants. I grew up in Vancouver, and the district where the hotel is located reminds me of Vancouver's West End--a little bit business, a little bit residential, and eminently walkable.

Back to the hotel--if you get a chance, nab a front room; the others are just as nicely fitted out, but as others have said, no view--just onto a ventilation shaft adjoining the next building. Good breakfast, extremely friendly and helpful staff, reliable wifi, and a very professional approach to hosting visitors from all over the world. (And we DID meet others from all over the world, at breakfast!)

This was a great place to stay. I plan to use it as my base, for further wanderings in Lisbon

This is a 2-star hotel that provides much of what you are likely to get in a 4-star – but at a much more competitive rate. It is just the shortest stroll from Arroios Metro station with easy links to the Airport and just 4 stops from the city centre. The hotel rooms have recently been totally refurbished with new bathrooms, furniture and carpets to a good standard. The en-suite is admittedly compact but has a three-quarter sized bath with a shower over, a WC, bidet, hair dryer and a small hand basin. We didn't have much in the way of views from our rooms, but those fronting the road will. There are single rooms: we also had a double on single occupation that cost no more. Rooms are clean and well serviced every day. There is a wide choice on offer for continental breakfast: the breakfast room is compact and it is a good idea to avoid busy periods if you can. The 24/7 desk staff are very helpful, including in advising on places to see and how to get there. It is disability accessible. We found a small rooftop area with a table and some chairs although the view isn’t magnificent. The surrounding area reflects a mixed inner city environment of apartments, local shops and cafés, pizza restaurant, etc: it isn’t an upmarket tourist spot – but consider what’s on offer for the money. So, if you are on a limited budget, are prepared to compromise on the size of your room and you like being in a local environment, then this could be for you. If you prefer North American chain hotels in prestigious locations, then look elsewhere.

Though not in the centre of the Portugal's city bustling this place deserves recommending. Close to the the metro station, just few stops from the main tourist attractions. Very friendly hotel staff speaking decent English. The rooms very tidy, cleaned each day. TV set, phone, wardrobe, desk inside. There was not a very nice view from our room's window (you can admire the neighbouring building's wall) which however was not a problem. At least you could get some fresh air instead of using air conditioning (available in all rooms). You can buy breakfast in the hotel as well but the buffet is restricted to the morning hours only so we decided to go to the nice cafe just on the corner. Wifi available in the hotel for free.

Room Tip: All rooms are of good quality. If you do not like elevators asks for room on the lower floor - we ha...

At the reception, Diogo, Ana and Suzana were very friendly and extremely helpful. Cleaning service was immaculate. good heating (airco) in our room (5th floor with elevator). There is also small fridge, very useful. In a quiet street (plus double windows!), just off Av. Alminrante Reis and near the Arroios metro station, for easy access to city centre, airport, etc. Good restaurants in the neighbourhood.
On the negative side: breakfast (not included in our rate) is expensive, but there is a very good bakery/cafetaria a few hundred metres away (Padaria Portuguesa -see our review). The mattress was about the worst we slept on during this roundtrip. There was no stopper for the bath, and when we asked one, the receptionist told us a story about a law in Portugal that prohibits 'stagnant water' in hotels... but they send up a plug to our room anyway. Another receptionist was less friendly and helpful; and he always proposed the more expensive and tourist-only alternatives (hop on/hop off bus or taxi instead off regular bus and metro; tourist traps for fado, etc.).

Very friendly and helpful staff. Good position near the Arrojos Metro station (just 3 stops to the city centre). Clean rooms.
Minimal breakfast in a really small room. Bathroom without window will ventilation system. In my room, air conditioning was pointed at the bed and not adjustable (thus, not bearable).
