There is an aircon unit in the top floor bedroom. The rest of the rooms just have small floor fans, but we had an unseasonably mild week in July, so this was not a problem - the fans work well. The flat is spacious and for a family of 4 with two teens, felt roomy and airy. The meet & greet was punctual and friendly, and the lady was very helpful.
They have resolved some of the issues other reviewers mention – for example, the electricity never went off at all whilst we were there, it was fine (and we used fans, kettle, washing machine, oven, etc). The drains in the bathroom are very smelly, but this is a feature of Portuguese systems – we had the same in the Algarve a few years ago.
Everything is extremely clean.
Wifi was perfect (essential for teens!) - fast, always there.
The neighbourhood is great – authentic and very friendly. Go for breakfast in the second café bar you come to on leaving the apartment (turn right). It’s run by a lovely couple who couldn’t have been more welcoming. Their breakfast toasties were a huge hit with our teens, and their freshly squeezed orange juice and coffee is wonderful.
The best places to eat are in Alfama. I wish we’d discovered that earlier in the holiday. We ate in Rua Augusta, which is fine, but rather touristy. The restaurants in the theatre area are also good.
Beware of barbershops who do not know how to cut hair! We had to take our son to Toni & Guy to have his haircut corrected (they were great, you’ll find them in Chiado).
The apartment is only 5-10 minutes from the centre of things – it’s very central really. A 20 minute walk and you’re right on the waterfront. Best to turn right out of the front door, though. Turning left is very residential and there are few eateries.
In summary, after reading the bad reviews on here, I was pleasantly surprised by the apartment. (We booked before reading these reviews, otherwise would probably have swerved.) Stairs are very steep and lots of them, so unsuitable for elderly.
I've given it 4 stars because of the drains, otherwise I would give this property 5 stars. It really needs a good extractor system in that bathroom, and that would cure it. (If the apartment were mine, I'd sacrifice the middle back bedroom and turn it into a bathroom, because then you'd get an opening window, which is needed. What a perfect apartment it would be then! 10 stars!)
On arrival at the airport, don’t queue for a taxi! Just cross over (up escalator/stairs) to Departures and there will be plenty of taxis and no queues. Cheaper too. It shouldn’t be more than 11 euros, but if you wait in that Q you’ll pay double.
No bathrooms - only 2 toilets and one shower that did not work great. Electricity fails everyday. Too far from city centre. Not good value. Poor communication from Andrea she pretends not to understand English.
No bathrooms only 2 toilets and one shower for 8 people. Electricity failed every day and no hot water. Apartment is in run down area of Lisbon and long walk to centre. Had to wait in street for over 1 hour for owner to turn up.she did not answer calls or texts.
We stayed here for 3 nights over the end of March and loved it. It IS in the center of the city and just a short walk to everything. I believe it's in the Martim Moniz area, or at least that's the metro stop we used to get to the apartment. The actual area may be different but the neighborhoods are all very close together. My son and I (11 years old) walked everywhere at all times of day and evening and really enjoyed the feel of the city. In regards to the apartment itself, it is large for a Lisbon apartment, it was clean and the bedrooms were large. There was one bathroom with a shower and one bathroom was just a toilet and sink. If you run several larger appliances at one time the fuse blows but that was easy to find and it happens in our house in the US so we are used to that. All other amenities were as described, and owner was very responsive to any needs that we had and was helpful suggesting places to go and things to do during our stay. We really loved Lisbon.
It is a lovely apartment but it is in a very run down area and not near the centre of Lisbon. Please note: there are NOT two bathrooms as advertised - there are two toilets and ONE shower. I would not have booked this if I had known there was only one shower in the apartment. Also the electricity fails if there is more than one heater on at the same time. Very poor communication from owner. We had to wait in the street for 50 minutes after the agreed meeting time before someone let us in to the apartment. Not recommended for more than two people.
