“Interesting food, great service and vlaue”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 April 2014

I'd recommend a visit to Alma. Their philosophy is seasonal cooking with limited menu options. I enjoyed my dishes and although my girlfriend didn't enjoy her dishes as much they were certainly very interesting. The service was great and overall I found Alma to be good value for money

“Extraordinary value for money”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 April 2014 via mobile

No it is not a Michelin star quality restaurant. Nevertheless I rarely had dinner this good for the price we paid (€120, 2 persons, 4 courses, and 3 good quality glasses of wine). Food was very good. Service great. Atmosphere nice too. Highly recommended.

Good to know: Apparently they will move to a more central address in Chiado quite soon.

“Highly recommended!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 March 2014

As mentioned before Henrique Sa Pessoa his restaurant is not very visable and based somewhat out of the center of Lisbon. We understood though that around May they will be moving.
Now the interesting part.
The menu was very short (2 starters/2 mains/1 dessert), with the two of us we were able to taste them all :-).

Very nice flavors/textures and also presentation. For us this is Michelin Star worthy!
A 3 course meal was only 30 euro's and matching wines 5 euro a glass.
In the Netherlands you would easily pay three times as much.
The interior was all white (modern which is fine), for our taste it could have used one contrast color.
The (Portugal) wines were good but did not perfectly match the dishes.
Staff were very friendly and accommodating except one who perhaps didn't have his night (all spoke English).

Conclusion:
Very good food for very moderate prices.

“Outstanding "Michelin Star" standard at a decent price”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 February 2014

Henrique Sa Pessoa is considered to be among the top 5 young chefs in Portugal. He is involved with many food ventures, yet his flagship restaurant Alma does not seem to get the visibility or credit it really deserves. You can hardly notice it on a quaint street in the Santos area.
We went for Valentines and had a fixed menu. It allowed us to try a large number of dishes and in each one of them I was surprised at the many flavors and textures he manages to combine in his food. The dishes are Portuguese based but the flavors and additions he places on them makes them quite unique compared to other restaurants in the Lisbon area. Some of the dishes were at as good or better than the two best, MIchelin star restaurants in the Lisbon area (Belcanto, Fortaleza de Guincho). The setting for my taste is too simple, while trying to be modern. The service is outstanding. Highly recommended. Again the flavors and textures you get from his dishes are quite unique. Moderately expensive for Portugal, but very good value. Reservations highly recommended.
