Lisbon wasn't overflowing with great places to eat - this one stood out.
Service was a little grumpy (often so in Lisbon).
Only Portuguese wine served. Waitor's English language skills not up to describing or helping with selection - my Portuguese was worse : )
Starters, mains, coffee for 2 came to e53.90. Very reasonable considering the quality of the food. Service not included.
Modern with atmosphere. Bathrooms were quirky and fun.

Another great place was Ribadouro, Av. da Liberdade 155.

The fact that you can't open either of the two doors from the street was a sign... a waitress opened the door for us and walked off without a word. The black, minimalist décor could have been attractive if there was a good atmosphere and good service, but as such it felt oppressive and pretentious. Our waiter was so unfriendly he could be confused for a robot, and made no apologies for the length of time we had to wait for our mains, then when they eventually arrived they were tasteless. The waiter's attitude made the whole experience awful - he didn't have a clue about customer service and simply walked off when told that the meals were disappointing! Another waiter was then sent to offer us desserts and coffee, which we declined - couldn't get out of there fast enough. There are so many incredible places to eat in Lisbon and this isn't one of them.

When we got there having made a reservation (Tuesday evening) we were the only diners although a couple more arrived later.None of the tea lights had been lit so it didn't look very inviting from the street and was cold inside. The waiter/owner seemed very depressed about the state of business and this was reflected throughout the evening. Despite being the only ones there, and there being a lot of activity in the kitchen, we had to wait a long time for the food which was OK when it did arrive. We were really disappointed as this was our last night in Lisbon and in addition we had had a drink in The Wine Bar on the same street before our meal and they had delicious looking tapas and were very friendly. Won't be going back

For starters we had poached egg in tomato soup and grilled mussels - all fairly modern interpretations of old favourites. For main course we had the duck confit which came with a wonderful risotto with cheese and sweet onion sauce - the duck was very tender and the mix of the savoury rice and sweet sauce was perfect blend. We also had the swordfish flambe with bananas which was also Excellent. The food was tasty, light and delicious.
The waiter split all the portions into 2 to share and I am sure we ended up with more food as a result. All this with drinks set us back a total of €40.

A fine dining experience in the heart of Biarro Alto. Great deco, outstanding food and a price to keep the smile on your face when you leave. The staff were attentive, friendly and helpful. 2 courses and a bottle of wine for 2 €50.
