“Its all about the location with this Hotel..”
Reviewed 29 December 2013

A very central and city centre located hotel without the business feel. We stayed in August 2012 before going on to Ritz Carlton Penha Longa (see separate review).

A taxi from the airport was no more than 30 minutes.

The rooms are small but in a city with numerous activities and attractions on your door step you will spend little time in it. Our room was interesting - it faced out onto local residences and as a result the windows are quite high in the walls. I had to stand on the bed to see out of my windows - protecting everyone's privacy I suppose.

Breakfast is served on the rooftop restaurant and has a balcony. It was summer and the weather was great! In one direction you had views of Eduardo VII Park; in another direction were views of Elevador de Santa Justa.

Immediately outside the hotel are hoards of local eateries and they all serve the local delicacies (Sardines or the custard pastries) all very nice too! A Starbucks is across the road in Rossio Train station. I like how the restaurants in the area spill out onto the cobbled streets. Also in the immediate vicinity are banks; atm’s; money changing facilities; a ticket stall for the hop on hop off tour buses; shopping malls and high street brands 5 minutes walk turning left out of the hotel. The higher end brands are some 15 to 20 minutes walk turning right out of the hotel going towards Eduardo VII Park. Also within walking distance is the start for the route of the famous tram 28.

Lisbon is good value for money for eating out, high street shopping, sightseeing etc. Our train from Rossio to Sintra (for Penha Longa) was 40 minutes and a single journey was Euro 2.30 (children up to a certain age go free).

This hotel's location cannot be beaten.

I have nothing but the highest praise for this wonderful hotel. The location is fantastic, extremely convenient with so much just a short walk away, and also a minute from the metro. Every member of staff was terrific, so pleasant, friendly and helpful. They go out of their way to be of assistance. The room is small but perfectly adequate and fitted with the latest conveniences - plasma tv, overhead bedside lights, fog-free mirror. The bar/restaurant on the top of the hotel stays open until 1 AM which was very nice when we arrived in Lisbon late. The breakfast buffet is excellent and the hotel is extremely well maintained. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel. We thought it was terrific.

We stayed at Altis Avenida Hotel for 3 nights. We really had a very nice stay as the staffs are friendly. The room and the bathroom were neat & clean . The breakfast buffet was very good and satisfied any taste. And the view overlooking the city from The terrace of the bar/restaurant on the top floor is amazing! Highly recommended, indeed.

After reading some of the many great reviews on this hotel and looking the very accurate photos we decided to book for a long weekend. From the moment we arrived the service was first class. My girlfriend and I arrived quite late Thursday evening and we're greeted warmly by the staff who showed us very promptly up to our rooms which was perfect as we had had a very long day.
The location of the hotel is perfect for all the sight seeing, located directly opposite the train station with two more metro stations close by. Never needed to use a cab once, even in this very hilly city.

After putting our bags into the room we headed starting for the rooftop restaurant which closed in a half hour, but they were only too happy to seat us right by the window with an amazing view of the Restauradores Square. The service was amazing and the food was delicious. A vey carefully selected menu of local and international cuisine, and in comparison to London was great value for money. P.s. Duck risotto is a must.

We also had the pleasure of eating breakfast in the same rooftop restaurant every morning, which was a perfect way to start each day, with a wide and varied breakfast selection.

Overall the hotel was one of the best value for money hotels I have stayed in around the world with great service, friendly staff, clean and stylish decor and an ideal location for seeing the whole city.

Dear Elliot, thank you very much for your great feedback! I am very happy that you enjoyed your stay with us, particularly the service and friendliness of our staff! I also appreciate your positive comments on the Restaurant and Breakfast quality. The "value for Money" aspect is very important, especially nowadays, therefore I am only too grateful for evaluating us the way you did. Hoping to welcome you back to the Altis Avenida Hotel one day, I remain with kind regards, Julia Campos

In this great spot its a pitty such a bad service: we arrived late and tired so asked for something simple for room service big mistake. Simple
The worse cesar salad of my life.
We brought our baby. Nice detail they placed a crib but with this we could not access the closet or go arownd the bed. Yes a small crib blocked all the walking space of the room. Breakfast was good. And the toiletries were very nice. But From a 3 week trip in Spain and Portugal this was the worse hotel by far.

I am sorry to hear that you didn't have a pleasant hotel experience with us. Besides the room size and the Room Service, I would be interested in knowing what else led you to the conclusion that we were lacking in terms of servisse, ss our hotel is known for the friendliness of its staff. My sister and I have just stayed at the Altis Avenida before joining a cruise. The staff at check in we're very helpful and explained the area to us and how to get the best out of our short time here. The room was on the small side but had everything we needed. There was a well stocked Mimi bar, robes and slippers, flat screen tv. the shower although over the bath had lots of hot water. We had drinks in the bar and tried a local wine. Although the weather was cold staff were warm and friendly. The hotels position is fabulous. We definitely recommend this hotel. We will come back for a longer stay.

Central location, close to subway, taxi and the Alfama and shopping area! The staff is very friendly and helpfull, thheir English is more than average in Portugal (even the room maids and bar tenders). The rooms are not very large, but comfortable and cosy, enough place for two! Extras: beds are prepared for the night while you are out having diner, chocolate on the pillow.
The bar/restaurant on the top floor is amazing, what a view!
Breakfast is perfect. We really enjoyed our stay in October.

Room Tip: All rooms are quiet and upto high standard. Maybe ask for a room on a higher floor, we were on the s...
