It was ok, I didn´t think it was anything too special. I guess you can try it once.

My wife was at first very apprehensive about the rickety elevador, but by the time we got to the top, the views made it all worthwhile. Gorgeous!

A day pass for trams and buses also gives access to the elevators. We did this just for the ride. We waited ages at the bottom for a 25 tram but they appeared not to be running that afternoon so we went back up which was more fun. Most passengers seemed to be there just for the experience so it was ok to admit to being a tourist.

This is a must: you can leave in the Cais do Sodré station (subway, train, bus) and just walk towards St. Paulo Square, make a stop to have a glass of wine seating confortably at the one of the terraces at the square and then just have a look on the ceiling of the St. Paulo Church, wich is very impressive. Then keep walking a few more metres and you'll find the gate for this incredible tram. Prepare you're camera and fight for a seat next to the window. You're about to cross one of the most typical and old neighborwoods in Lisbon. Really, reallly cool.
