“Excellent place to sample Portuguese wines”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 May 2012

This is not a restuarant, but it is a great place to have some iberian ham, olives, cheese, bread and olive oil while getting a great sampling of Portuguese wines. The owner was very friendly and knowledgable and shared with us some excellent wine. We got the large ham and cheese plate for our group and the food was excellent. The atmosphere is warm and cozy and the location is excellent, just a few meters away from the entrance to the Castle.

Don't expect to eat a full meal, and don't expect fast service. Be prepared to wait and enjoy the wine. The owner services all of the tables and at times seemed a little overwhelmed, but was always friendly and accomodating. I almost gave it 4 stars because of the wait but I decided it is defintely worth it and deserves an excellent rating.

“Tacky tourist trap”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 May 2012 via mobile

Arrived into the small cute little wine bar - excited to sample portugese wine and cheese. Place was packed but ended up sharing a table with another couple. Both of the wine bar staff that were on seemed unable to cope with the "vast" amount of customers they had. Waited at least 20 mins to finally have the attention of the main server - while the couple we sat with explained it was customary for the servers to spend time at each table for sampling various wines until you choose. When we got our turn, we were approached by a sneering and condescending tone - remarks made about how we described our wine along with a pathetic attempt at jovial customer inclusion to the wine bar "show". I was served my wine while my partner was trying to find one he liked. I became so sick of listening to the servers hyperbole about his wine that I gave my partner my glass which he had tasted and liked but was told he " looked more like a red man" and had to taste a selection of reds.. Food was beyond expensive and was given no answers as to what we were eating except what type of milk each cheese contained - one of us would finish our glass and the other would not and each time a refill took at least 15 mins.. They were not big glasses, we had no price indication and to top of the evening, when the banter was getting a bit dry our server resorted to personally insulting us as some ploy at humor - very bad experience in this tacky tourist trap..

“Perfect place to get introduced to Portuguese wines”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 April 2012

Our first night in Lisbon, we stumbled here after watching the sunset in castelo.

The staff were so friendly when it came to our lack of knowledge of the country's wines, and were able to show us the delights of different regions and most importantly the ports. The cheese dish was excellent, and five wines, five cheeses later we were happily stumbling home.

The service was great and this cozy place was an excellent place to unwind after a long day of sightseeing.

“The very best place to be introduced to Portuguese wines”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 April 2012

First off. If you’re looking for a full blown restaurant this isn’t the place for you.

There is some simple very high quality food of offer – cheeses, meats et al but the real emphasis is on the wine and what a emphasis it is.

Everyone of the staff (I’d hesitate to call them waiters) is passionate about Portuguese food and wine and they’ll advise you, based on you palette what you might what to try. It’s a really enjoyable experience!
