This was a beautiful hotel - high ceilings - two bathrooms (one with toilet/bidet) - both with showers. There was a welcome gift of fruit and a departure gift of a delicious box of chocolates.

The staff were courteous and helpful. The buffet breakfast was delicious. Loved the convenient location!

Room Tip: loved the suite!

An extra friendly welcome, the nice offer of our first breakfast because we arrived earlier than expected, the view from our room windows, the welcome drink served in the astonishing lobby while listening to the live piano music, the view of Lisbon when crossing the bridge returning from Evora, the unexpected hotel goodbye gift. Just perfect.

My wife and I spent 6 nights at the Avenida Palace as part of our 25th wedding anniversary celebration. Hotel was absolutely beautiful with period decor and architectural details. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. We have never been so well taken care of by a hotel before. The location is within walking distance to most of Lisbon's points of interest and historical districs. The metro is next door and the city buses leave from a nearby plaza. We don't usually splurge for 5 star hotels, but I am very glad that we did. The hotel staff made this a vacation to remember for us.

We enjoyed our stay but, if you are looking for a modern hotel, this is not for you. It's the kind of place kings and presidents would have stayed at in the 1940's thru the 1970's, but it's a little tired now. The breakfast buffet is very average and you can slightly hear the rumble of the subway station (but it's not obvious or enough to keep you awake). I don't think there is a full restaurant in the hotel - at least the room service menu was very limited. Staff was very attentive and professional and the location is excellent. Wi-fi in the rooms worked fine but the hotel computer was unusably slow. Be aware that there is no elevator access to the 3rd floor! You have to ride to the 4th floor and walk down (a grand staircase). Not sure we would stay here again.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to post your review following your stay at the Avenida Palace.

In general, you overall enjoyed your stay with us, and recognize how great our location is and the attentiveness and professionalism of our staff members. Indeed our team pledges to provide the best personal services to each of our guests.

Our free wi-fi service has also totally pleased you. In fact, our concern with keeping up with the new technologies makes this Hotel a landmark at the intersection of tradition and innovation.

As the Avenida Palace is a Hotel where the comfort of our guests really matters, I was concerned to read that we didn´t exceed your expectations. Should I have known it, I could have taken care of the problem you refer.

With a prime location in the very centre of Lisbon, this Hotel, with more than a century of history and fully renovated, as one can see on our website, is a symbol of our great city.

I do hope that the Avenida Palace will have the honor of welcoming you back in a near future.

Sincerely Yours,

Pedro Miguel Costa

My wife and I spent 4 nights at the Avenida Palace in May, 2012. You cannot beat its location in the historical center. You can easily access all the major spots and neighborhoods from the hotel on foot. The hotel is beautiful inside...with a grand, old-world charm. The service was friendly and excellent. The only fault with their service was with restaurant recommendations; they sent us to a touristy over-priced place for Fado. Always check with a local for real advice when it comes to restaurants as most hotels have some connection-system with certain restaurants that make their recommendations in their best interest, not in your best interest. Otherwise, the service was great. We had the concierge rent us a car and he got us just as good of a price as if we had done it ourselves. If you want the best tour of Lisbon, see my review for Lisbon Explorer. Again...the hotel wanted to set us up with their recommended guide and even said "I live here my whole life and never heard of your tour company..."
The breakfast was bountiful and included in the price of our room. We rented the junior suite for 267 Euro per night. I e-mailed the hotel directly and got a slightly better price than online at the time. The internet was fast and always worked. The shower in our junior suite was literally the best shower I've ever had...like standing under Niagara Falls!
The drinks in their bar were over-priced (as to be expected) and the bartender was the only person we met in the hotel that did not speak English. Right next door is a safe local bar with all the beer, wine, cocktails and Port that you would want at a fraction of the price. And their bartender, Carla, speaks perfect English.
The friendliest worker at the hotel was a door-man named Enrique. Perfect English, always smiling...always willing to talk and give you his thoughts on Lisbon. What a great guy. If you see Enrique, tell him you heard great things about him! He will smile from ear to ear.
I would not hesitate to stay in this hotel again. We don't usually do 5 star hotels. We are more of a 3-4 star vacation people. However, this splurge was so worth it. As long as you don't pay for the drinks in their bar or go to their restaurant recommendations, the value is awesome for all that you get: location, service, and style!

Room Tip: Go to their website for the best prices and e-mail the hotel directly if you want to see if you can...

The inspiration for choosing the Avenida Palace was due, partly,to the accompanying music when we opened their web site - 'As Time Goes By' - you must remember this - everyone in 'Casablanca' was trying to get to Lisbon.Well I went one better than Bogie & actually got there with the woman I love !
What can we add that hasn't already been written here - perhaps the title of another old song
'Too Marvellous for Words '
Arriving at the hotel the emphasis is definitely in the title 'Palace' - not only the decor but being treated as royalty.
Whilst we were saying our last farewells to the city before collecting our baggage we were
blissfully unaware that our onward flight had been cancelled due to an air traffiic control strike
only to return to the hotel to not only discover this news but also to be informed they had taken care of everything & booked us on the next available flight the next day which although meant an extra night stay ( which, due to the circumstances, was offered to us at a very reasonable rate ) turned a potential problem into a bonus surprise for us.
I cannot praise the staff & management highly enough for a truly memorable stay & for all the
right reasons

Room Tip: Even though our room faced the road ( with view of St.George's Castle ) the quality of the doubl...
