Everything about this hotel was perfect. The quiet beautiful location amongst embassies, the lobby, the gardens, the rooms so beautifully and traditionally decorated, the swimming pool (shame it was January and we could not use it but I can see it being amazing in the summer). The breakfast was an absolute feast, service was warm and attentive, super professional. An amazing stay!

We spent two nights here at the end of a cruise, sadly the sky was overcast with dense fog so we missed some of the benefit of the hotel's location. It is situated high on a hill overlooking the river, with a river view room, and the floors are terraced around an outdoor pool and garden. The garden was lovely.
The rooms were spacious, very spacious. The bedroom had space to roam even with a king size bed. The décor was classic and subdued. In addition to adequate drawer space in the armoire there was at least 8 linear feet of lighted closet space with a good supply of high quality hangers and a myriad of shelves and cubbyholes. The mattress was not firm - hard is the only descriptor that fits the sheet and blankets were fine.
The bathroom was also spacious with a tub, dual sinks -although counter space was - limited, toilet, bidet and an "L" shaped shower stall. The shower was poorly designed, with conflicts between the shower door and the door to the bathroom and water on the floor was a problem with every shower. Toiletries were adequate in quantity, refreshed appropriately and of reasonable quality. Towels were large enough and plush enough to meet 5 star requirements, Both robes and slippers were provided.
Service at the front desk, the concierge, bell staff and housekeeping were appropriate although turndown service was a bit early for our room - around 6 pm.
If the bed was more comfortable, the bathroom more functional and turndown service during dinner instead of before the Lapa Palace would rate "excellent"

Room Tip: River view rooms on clear days should have wonderful views of the city and the river beyond.

The hotel is a classic. A nice hideout with an impressive resort with garden and outdoor pool in the city.
An old building which has passed several renovations but kept a dusty feeling.
Nice large rooms but were unable to sleep due to a strange noise ( probably from an air conditioning chiller somewhere in the building). It is not this the main purpose of a hotel ? People should be able to sleep. Nice and attentive service, good concierge ( vital as always in a city ).
Although we did not have a good sleep, I definitely recommend for a stay in Lisbon.

Room Tip: Book a room on the pool side.

We stayed here in October for three days for a short city break without the kids. Although not in the city center the hotel is well-located in the Lapa district with views of the harbour and is connected to the city center by tram. Service at the hotel equals the service experienced at other equal five star hotels, although it was not possible for the hotel to fix the dvd in the room so I could see the dvd I had brought with me from home (which works fine at my own dvd-player at home). Breakfast was fine without being outstanding in any way. The hotel has an indoor and outdoor pool, which we enjoyed a lot. The hotel also has a bar by the outdoor pool which however was closed when we were there. The interior of the hotel seems slightly dated when compared with hotels in the same category and considering the price tag, I can only rate this hotel stay as a 4 star experience.

The hotel is elevated in the hills with a sea view, it is actually an old palace so retains some of the beautiful old features. The staff were very attentive and the hotel has almost a regal feel to it. The restaurant serves a michelin star quality food and has a stunning view over the tropical gardens. Our room was large with a huge bed and the sleep quality was excellent. Breakfast was very good but it was a shame they served it in a back courtyard and not on the amazing terrace of the main restaurant.

I chose this hotel on the basis of Tripadvisor reviews and was just delighted. We traveled in August with two young-adult children and a teenager. The rooms are absolutely lovely and the bathrooms are a marble extravaganza. (In fact, I took pictures to show my designer at home.)

The guidebooks and many reviewers will point out that you are in a diplomatic section and not in a central location. We did not personally find this to be a negative as we are a little bit Norwegian (and thus will walk for blocks without a thought !) In addition, the cabs are cheap compared to many other cities, and you can use them freely without feeling too indulgent.

Our goal was to relax for a few days after a couple strenuous sightseeing weeks elsewhere in Europe, and it fit the bill nicely. We all enjoyed the lovely garden and pool. The only negative was the price of pool-side drinks. (Tread carefully and see if you are really all that thirsty.) My husband tested the waters on this. It's enough to shock even a well-traveled kid from Bethesda.

The Lapa Palace had a Four-Seasons feel to me as the service was excellent and everything was clean and well-appointed. Unlike one reviewer, we thought the beds were very comfortable.
The breakfast buffet tables are capacious and are stocked with something for everyone. In sum, you will not need much lunch.

I was particularly pleased with the concierge service and I really ran them through their paces as I usually ask an unreasonable number of questions.. Because we are a large family, the concierge recommended a private car for a tour of Sintra and we felt this was one of the best travel experiences we have ever had. (Surprisingly, it was less than if we had purchased a structured tour for party of four or five). The guide, Mauricio, was wonderful and it was great to be in control of where we stopped and how long we stayed in each spot. I also appreciated the recommendation we received for tile-buying and we ended up commissioning a large custom picture for our home.

The only negative we experienced was the restaurant recommendation for our second night. I specifically asked for a relaxed inexpensive place similar to Cafe Primo (which was great) and instead we were steered to a pricey place that was trying too hard to be upscale.

I have always had a special place in my heart for Portugal since I first went there as a child and this trip to Lisbon was really special.

The very best thing about Lapa Palace is unmistakably the very high calibre of staff it employs. Everyone we interacted with from the maids, footman, concierge etc were friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. After some confusion when we arrived we were upgraded to the 7th floor in the main house, nice room with a great view of the Tegus. The room was very good but some of the furniture perhaps could've done with some updating (just a few signs of wear and tear).
On the first evening we dined in the main restaurant, the presentation of the food could match any michelin star restaurant we've been to, but unfortunately that's where the similarities end. It was, to be blunt, a bit bland. Breakfast was really good though, a huge selection of fresh fruit, bread, cereals and cooked food. The garden and swimming pool area was nice and relaxing. Don't let any of my negative comments put you off, this really is a most excellent hotel.

Room Tip: Not ground floor (too noisy), garden room upper floor, or if upgrading, 6th and 7th floors main hous...
