We stayed at the Lapa Palace for three nights during October half term with our two sons, ages 14 and 12. We didn't have much time and wanted to go somewhere we could relax as well as get some sunshine, culture and good food. We knew Lisbon could offer all of those and the Lapa Palace certainly delivered on the relaxation front. Nothing was too much trouble for the lovely friendly staff, who were always ready to help and make suggestions, making our visit very successful and most memorable. The rooms, swimming pools and saunas were lovely and clean and spacious. The setting was beautiful with views of the ocean out across the park. We loved every minute of it.

The Lapa Palace is a gracious and elegant five star hotel epitomizing a level of service and quality from a bygone era. We were fortunate to stay in the older section of the hotel and thus are unable to comment on the newer portion. Upon arrival we were upgraded to a beautifully appointed suite with a terrace overlooking the harbor. The staff is welcoming and extremely helpful. The dining room, spa and swimming pool are all in keeping with the quality of the hotel.

Lisbon itself is a charming city with a beautiful old section, wonderful retaurants and warm friendly people.

Great property with elegant comfortable rooms. Bar and restaurant are first class, indoor and outdoor pool and wonderful grounds. Stayed here on business for 4 nights and the staff was friendly and well trained. I was spoken to by name almost from the time I checked in. Concierge made reservations at a wonderful small restaurant nearby.
My only complaint, albeit small, is the location of the hotel. It is in the embassy neighborhood with few restaurants or shopping close. Because of the embassies, the neighborhood, is very safe to walk in. I would stay again.

The Lapa Palace was chosen by the Count Valencas as his noble residence at the end of the 19th century upon a hill in Lisbon and since 1992 the Lapa Palace serves as one of the most fabled hotels in the world. After having flown back from our first time in Madeira with Easyjet, we were once again back to Lisbon, Folks! After we have stayed two times at the Pestana Palace Lisbon, ( see our review at our profile ) we now have taken up residence for only one night at this famous hotel, the Lapa Palace Lisbon, which was formerly owned and run by Orient Express Hotels and is since June 2009 owned by Olissippo Hotels and Resorts of Portugal. We had earlier in March 2009 visited the Lapa Palace and had lunch at the Rio Tejo Bar, this was the time when the Palace was still VSOE owned - so our Orient Express Lapa Palace Polo Shirts we had bought then are now a real rarity. Now in September 2009 we are back and find the Lapa Palace in new ownership, but with the same beautiful service and smiles all around from the staff. From the airport of Lisbon we have bought as usual our taxi ticket at the Tourist Information office there at Terminal One at a one-way cost of 21 Euros incl. Luggage costs. No hassle and best service with Mercedes Benz transfer to the Lapa Palace, located in the Embassy District of Lisbon, only 20 min. transportation from the airport. The Lapa Palace has two distinctive wings, one wing is the original Palace wing ( 21 rooms ) ( which was Count Valencas villa on the hill ) and the other which is directly connected is the Garden wing ( 88 rooms ). The hotel is a five diamond award winner and is also a member of the Leading Hotels of the World. After arriving we were off to the beautiful muraled lobby and received fast and very friendly service and within minutes we were in our upgraded Palace room in the original Villa, room no. 604. The luggage was also delivered within seconds, literally. The receptionist gave also superb information about the offerings of the hotel incl. restaurants, reservations for dinner, the gardens, pools and Spa information plus a description of our superb room. And what a room it was, Folks! Our room was one of the most beautiful rooms ( beside the Pestana Palace also in Lisbon, Villa Magna in Madrid, Reid' s Palace in Funchal, Madeira ) we had ever stayed and was large and was very very thoughtful furnished and finished incl. we had several welcome messages from the General Manager plus gifts which included local celebrated Belem pastries, a bottle of Port and free water at turn down service. The room itself incl. light natural noble wood carved furniture everywhere we looked, all colour matched and presented with an real eye for even the smallest details. We had two twin beds pushed together which makes one large king-size bed with pink duvet and several upholstered luxury pillows, white linen, 4 sleeping pillows, carved head board, Sony automatic watch and radio, night stand on each side plus slippers and weather forecast presented with a small rose. Our Palace room came also with these fine details incl. large writing desk, fully furnished Juliet balcony, large coffee table with full sized chairs, welcome fruits, beautiful curtains, pink flowery carpet all the way, several power outlets, very good working airconditioning, large sofa for two, internet access via cable, several telephones, 24h room service ( which we used for our dinner after arriving at the hotel incl. Roast beef sandwich, ham and cheese sandwich, traditional portuguese mixed salad, one virgin colada and one orange juice at a cost of 70.00 Euro incl. Tax and tip. ( 95 US-Dollar, 60 UK-Sterling Pounds ). All judged presented as in a very good restaurant in our room. Highly recommend ). We had also access to the following service options in our room incl. dry cleaning services, our very own Nespresso Machine incl. 3 different coffee capsules x2 ( we had tried it on the morning after the breakfast - just wonderful ) international tea selection in the room, we also had superb portuguese art on the wall and a LCD screen TV which could be automatically hidden by touch of a button beside the bed in a specifically built cabinet ( up and down automatic - plus 360 Degree swivel per hand ). The TV had 20 inch. - so not unbelievable big - and was by Samsung and there was also a DVD Player also from Samsung. The TV offered 50 TV channels incl. CNN, Bloomberg TV, CNBC and many others from around the world - some channels had only a so so reception probably because of the hotels hillside location and wind. Having said that who comes to such a beautiful stunner of a hotel to watch TV, Folks? We also had one large fully stocked Mini-Bar, writing paper, hotel directory and fantastic lightning, which was a real joy. The superlarge wardrobe was located in our foyer and offered 15 hangers, umbrella plus safe and massive storage space with three doors. Our balcony by the way had views over the garden trees and the below located terraces of suites and a side view up to the fabled Tower suite which was above us plus naturally views over the babylonian gardens and the Garden Wing. Moving further in our thorough description of our Palace room we move on to the magnificent bathroom, Folks! The Bathroom ( always superb water pressure on offer ) was very large and was 100% marbled, even the edges in grey and white polished marble. ( The details are perfect! ). We had his and hers double sinks, large mirror, large comfortable bathtub with hand held shower attachment, separate shower stall - also completely marbled all the beautiful way! We enjoyed also here incl. a scale, bath towels, bathrobes, face towels, hand towels and heated towel rack. The Bath amenities came from Helleboro ( the same company that supplied the Reid' s Palace in Funchal, Madeira - see our review in our profile for our stay at the fabled 1891 opened Reid' s Palace ) - Made in Italy and incl. bathfoam, showergel, shampoo, conditioner, after sun lotion ( never seen before in hotels even at Reid' s ), nail file, shower cap and many other nice things incl. porcelain holders for tooth brushes and more throughout the whole bathroom and bedroom! Just stunning incl. the filled up small porcelain box with sweet bonbons in the room! Details all the way that made our stay! All in all our Palace room no. 604 on the sixth floor was noble, romantic, luxurious, large and extremely comfortable and comes highly recommended. ( we received it as an upgrade through our membership in the Leaders Club ). We believe that the Lapa Palace beside the Pestana Palace are the two best hotels in Lisbon for romance, uniqueness, real history and fantastic services which all adds to superb value despite a fairly high overnight rate which was fast forgotten because of the superb high standards achieved in both properties! Some would also incl. the Ritz Lisbon, A Four Season Hotel. The Lapa Palace overall offers the following amenities incl. the fabled Lapa Restaurant ( we had no time to try it, yet! ), which is the best italian restaurant in Lisbon, the superb Bar Rio Tejo which is a superb salon and terrace ( here we had two times lunch incl. hot chocolate, peach juice, sparkling portuguese wine by the glass, superb modern gazpacho with shrimps ( judged superb by her! ) and he had the portuguese omlette which incl. potatoes and peppers plus a full load of fries on the side plus salad and condiments, Wow! ( he was full, full, full! ). Our lunch came in at 60 Euros - 50 UK Pounds Sterling or 78 US Dollars incl. Tax and tip. The Service was superb on both occassions ( in March 2009 and now in September 2009 ). We also strolled through the magnificent gardens which incl. fountains, fish pond, large tiled waterfall between the two hotel wings, superb shrubbery and flowers plus the outdoor pool and the pool bar plus in the corner a hidden kid' s pool. The garden was not as large as the garden in the Pestana Palace but was superb manicured instead and nevertheless babylonian. The hotel offers also The Lapa Spa with La Prairie treatments on offer and many treatments for men, haidresser, Signature shop, business centre which offers free internet access and superb service throughout the hotel to sum up the picture perfect Lapa Palace Hotel. All in all a we found a fabled hotel on the hill in the Embassy district of Lisbon in beautiful neighbourhood with the Chinese embassy on your doorstep plus superb historic architecture as well! We had the fortune to stay here, albeit only one night with 4PM late check-out and the opportunity to be serviced by wonderful employees incl. during the breakfast which was served in the Sala Monsanto with a hidden terrace courtyard where we enjoyed incl. coffee, pear juice, eggs, sausages, cold cuts, meatballs in cream sauce, cherry tomatoes, pasteis de Belem - the fabled pastries served with cinnamon and vanilla sugar, yoghurt, cheese selection, bread selection, jam and butter plus fruit selection all served in a beautiful, light and airy surrounding the hidden courtyard. This was our stay at this fabled hotel ( where the General Manager has brought us nearer to the portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa in his welcome message ) and we shall hopefully be back for a longer stay next time around, please! Our 4 PM late check out arrived with taxi waiting in the wings already and we were off to the Lisbon International Airport for our flight to London Gatwick with Easyjet and our one night stay ( before flying back with Aer Lingus to our home capital of Dublin ) there at the Hilton London Gatwick Hotel ( see our review in our profile for that! ). So do not forget to FLY!STAY!EXPLORE!MORE! and see Lisbon through the eyes of the fabled Lapa Palace, one day at a time! ( we should not forget the superb Pestana Palace! ).

We held our wedding recently at the Lapa Palace Hotel and nothing I could say would adequately describe how fantastic this hotel was. From the time we arrived en mass with a large group of family and friends the staff were attentive, patient and above all professional - nothing was too much trouble and everything was done with a smile. Despite the fact that the kitchen was catering for almost 100 people everyone raved about the food which was the best wedding dinner I had ever tasted - every plate was perfect! I cant thank the staff enough for helping to make our weekend the best of our lives and we will definitely be back.

This year we went to Lisbon to stay at this hotel, having last year stayed at this hotel to visit Lisbon. The secret of this hotel is its spaciousness (its deceptive as when you enter the grounds you think the hotel is going to be poky, but it opens up like the tardis once you go through the front door), its beautifully designed rooms (which are living rooms and bedrooms rolled into one with decent balconies) that allow you to hang out all day long and not feel you're missing anything and - boys oh boys - a swimming pool that's a cross between a Gaugin and a Monet. The staff are lovely and the room service is great (but a bit pricey). The breakfasts are fantastic (and would be even better if you could enjoy them by the poolside) as - I believe - the restaurant is also although because its so quiet we never ate there (we went into town or had room service). If you're in Lisbon you must visit a Fado restaurant (I recommend the Clube de Fado) and the staff will get you a good table near the musicians. The DVD player in teh room allows you to spend more time in if you want to, but the hotel's dvd selection - although good - is a bit out of date so you might want to bring you favourite DVDs (we brought Frasier). Having Lisboned two years in a row we might try somewhere else for a year or two, but this hotel will set the standard by which all hotels will henceforth by judged. Hotel excellence, thy name is Lapa Palace.
