“Beautiful hotel - warm staff”
Reviewed 7 April 2010

I traveled to Lisbon for my mother in law's 60th Birthday. We were a family of 8 adults with a 21 month year old and looking for a trip that combined culture with relaxation. Arrival on the hotel was very impressive. The conceirge greated us with a friendly smile and it was apparent instantly that Lapa palace prides itself on it's service. This didn't change throughout the stay - service was faultless. Reception, conceirg, breakfast staff and spa staff provided strong customer service - I was very impressed with the level of service and the personal 'can do' helpful attitude that ran through this hotel.
The main negative was location. If you are happy to hop in a taxi (approximately 6 euro's to most local places) then this isn't neccessarily a down side for you. However I enjoy venturing out and seeing the culture of cities on foot and this was more difficult to do at this location - however I'm not sure this is a fault of the hotel more of the city! The spa also needs some improvement - I would not expect to see a five star hotel with a spa that has crumbling paint on the ceiling. This is a quick fix that I'd suggest would greatly improve perception of this hotel. Please dont let this put you off though - There are plenty of alternatives. The hotel is set in wonderful grounds and in warmer months you wouldn't need to venture to the spa anyway.
Overall I had a pleasent stay at this hotel. I would certainly recommend it to friends but with an air of caution if your are looking for somewhere that is accessible to most tourist attractions.

Absolutely loved this hotel as did my 9 and 5 year old. We had two adjoining rooms - very well appointed and maintained. The staff were very helpful, even helping me source a cataplana. Child-friendly place, my children loved being able to choose from a selection of age-appropriate DVDs. Beautiful grounds too - the children enjoyed playing in the garden and loved the swimming pool. Wish we could have afforded to stay longer!

Great view of the water, friendly people, good facilities to work out. Good masseuse, great breakfast. Kind of inconvenient getting there via public transportation, but overall a good hotel.

We stayed at the Lapa Palace for three nights during October half term with our two sons, ages 14 and 12. We didn't have much time and wanted to go somewhere we could relax as well as get some sunshine, culture and good food. We knew Lisbon could offer all of those and the Lapa Palace certainly delivered on the relaxation front. Nothing was too much trouble for the lovely friendly staff, who were always ready to help and make suggestions, making our visit very successful and most memorable. The rooms, swimming pools and saunas were lovely and clean and spacious. The setting was beautiful with views of the ocean out across the park. We loved every minute of it.

The Lapa Palace is a gracious and elegant five star hotel epitomizing a level of service and quality from a bygone era. We were fortunate to stay in the older section of the hotel and thus are unable to comment on the newer portion. Upon arrival we were upgraded to a beautifully appointed suite with a terrace overlooking the harbor. The staff is welcoming and extremely helpful. The dining room, spa and swimming pool are all in keeping with the quality of the hotel.

Lisbon itself is a charming city with a beautiful old section, wonderful retaurants and warm friendly people.
