We very much enjoyed several nights in this historic hotel. Lush outdoor breakfast room, and flower-bedecked rooftop terrace provided welcome respite from city streets. Staff was pleasant and helpful, breakfast offerings tasty and room was sizable and nicely appointed. An added perk - museum next door is incredible, a must-see for anyone visiting Lisbon.

A lovely and quiet hotel, not in the middle of the city chaos but still in the city.

I started to go to Portugal in 2007 - when I knew Janelas Verdes, For me a hotel is more than buildings and furnitures: is the crew what really counts. That's why I feel home in Lisbon, because the people from Janelas Verdes. The Tejo scenary is really a bonus,,,

As Janelas Verdes is a real find if you're looking for a romantic, unique hotel in Lisbon.

It's rare to find such personal, professional service in a hotel these days but that's exactly what we got at this charming small hotel. The rooms are beautifully furnished with antique furniture and although not conventionally "luxury" they were clean and comfortable.

We arrived early but check in was no problem and the friendly receptionist provided us with lots of information about the city and what to see and do. The buffet breakfast was excellent with fresh fruit, breads and pastries (yummy custard tarts!) and served until 12 if you fancy a lie-in. The lovely library has an "honesty" bar where you serve yourself and are trusted to pay on check-out which was another unique experience!

The hotel is a little out of the centre but is easily walked or accessed by tram or bus. I would definitely recommend this hotel over the usual run-of-the-mill chain hotels that usually populate cities. We hope to return again soon.

We took advantage of a special offer from the Heritage Group of hotels and were only told which hotel we would be staying in 48 hours before arrival. The As Janelas Verdes is delightful. It is quiet, elegant and charming. It is a little way from the main sites and shopping of Lisbon (about 1 kilometre) but the inexpensive taxis that pass frequently by the front door of the hotel meant that this wasn't a problem. Our party of four adults who all travel a lot would happily go back again and recommend it to others.

My wife and I stayed here for 5 nights on our first visit to Lisbon. Our cab ride from the airport cost 13 euros (cheaper than I'd been told) and took about 30 minutes. Checkin was fast and efficient and we were given plenty of information by the freindly staff. We were immediately made to feel very welcome, they were still serving breakfast when we arrived (from London) and we were told to go ahead and help ourselves (many of the upmarket business hotels wouldn't do that). Our bedroom was very spacious, the bed was big and comfortable, the TV and Internet worked perfectly and the furnishings were just lovely. We checked out the Library, a beautiful sitting room and balcony with a fantastic view of the river and were surprised at the range of drinks available at the "honesty" bar. Then we went out to explore. The hotel is a short distance to the town centre, and is easily walked but we found the bus service really handy as busses are frequent and stop just outside the hotel. We slept very well in our room and had no problem with traffic, or any other noise. A few nights were quite warm and we used the air conditioning which worked well and silently. Breakfast was very good every morning; great coffee, eggs and bacon, fruits, breads, cakes, juices, cheeses, cold meats, cereals etc etc. Everything was fresh, well presented and tasty. The room was cleaned and tidied everyday and everything was completely in order, plus the decanter of complimentary port was kept permanently topped-up! A few nights we decided to eat locally instead of going to the Barrio Alto and discovered some fantastic restaurants just a few minutes away. Afterwards we strolled around the Lapa area and looked at all the elegant buildings including some very impressive embassies. This hotel really is a lucky find, had we not stayed here, we would not have seen Lapa which in many ways is nicer than the more touristy areas. I'll be coming again and I'll be recommending it to anyone that travels to Lisbon.

Gorgeous views from this hotel, though it's a bit further from the hustle and bustle of Bairro Alto than one might like. Overall positive experience. All of your needs will be met here, but I found a street facing room to be a bit too noisy at night.
