“Really just perfect”

For over a week our stay at the Britania never ceased to please! The location is a few steps from the Metro, bus and tram lines you will need to move smoothly around Lisbon and get to and from the airport. You can walk through traditional neighborhoods and eat in local family run restaurants nearby. The hotel itself is not like anything you have ever experienced with a full bar, afternoon Port with tea and sweets, a sumptuous and healthy breakfast buffet and the warmest, caring and informed staff one could wish for. It is an elegant tribute to a past lifestyle ripe with detail and decorum.

My wife and I had a lovely experience in this hotel. 1-Location: it's in a quiet side street, but just 500 m from the Metro station and 10 minute walk thru a clean and beautiful promenade to the heart of Lisbon. 2-Service: The staff are really smart & helpful. 3-Rooms: very spacious, comfy and clean bathroom. 4-Breakfast: it was not included in our deal but we tried it and it was one of the best with a very reasonable price. We would surely get back.

Stayed 3 nights at the end of April. Hotel was built around 1943 and the style and quality of the decor in the rooms is of that period and very tasteful. Beautiful wooden floors in the lounge area of the hotel and what seemed like antique cork floors in the bedrooms which is warm, soft and quiet. Bathrooms well appointed with lots of marble on the floor and walls, high quality towels and good quality Molton Brown toiletries. The period features of the hotel have been well maintained and any updates sensitively done. Comfortable beds which coupled with the quiet street meant good sleep quality.
The hotel is on a side street half way up Avenida and its only a 10 minute walk to Rossio (sort of the centre of Lisbon) and a couple of minutes walk to Avenida Metro station, where the Airport Bus 91 stops.
Some very reasonable cost restaurants nearby (on the next street away from Avenida) which have quite acceptable food.
The pastries, fresh fruit, muesli etc. at the Britania breakfast were great, though the hot breakfast was a bit of a letdown. However, they do have a Nespresso machine so the coffee was excellent.
Needless to say the hotel was spotless.
Can't imagine staying anywhere other than the Britania if we ever return to Lisbon.
The staff could not have been more helpful or pleasant.

Room Tip: We were in Room 45 which was just fine. But I doubt if there's a bad room in the house.

My wife and I had a very pleasant 3 nights at the Britania Hotel. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and my wife especially enjoyed the Molton Brown accessories. If you are staying here don't miss the pastries and port in the afternoons. The hotel itself is in a quiet street but in a very central location. I would definately go back and recommend the hotel for anyone looking to explore Lisbon.

Located a block behind Avenida Liberdad, the hotel is close enough to the heart of Baixa to be convenient but far enough away to be quiet at night. The building itself is impressive, dating from the mid-nineteen forties and designed by the architect of the Eden cinema. The modernist style has been reflected in the fixtures, fittings and furniture of the hotel: chunky wood chairs and tables and dramatic brass and chrome light fittings. Other features of interest include a restored barber's shop (to the right of the lift in the main lobby) which feels as though the barber and his clients have just stepped outside for a moment, leaving scissors on the couter and hats on the rack. Our (superior) room was extremely comfortable, spotlessly clean and, despite facing the street, extremely quiet: partly good double glazing, partly because it's a quiet neighbourhood. Staff extremely helpful and firendly. Very good breakfast: smoked ham, scrambled eggs, mushrooms, spinach balls on the hot buffet, fresh squeezed orange juice, excellent fruit salad and strawberries. As you would expect too, very very good coffee. No dinner service but Rubro, a Spanish restaurant, is almost next door (turn left out of the hotel entrance and go past the Pharmacia) serving high quality tapas and more.

Room Tip: Pick a superior one at the front.

I won’t dwell too much on the hotel itself apart from to note that it’s web site does do it justice – curiously the mobile version of the site is better. You’re in for a treat!

But I would like to emphasise how good the service is. Every recommendation from the concierge was a really good one and some of the places (Wine Bar do Castelo!!!) , though off the beaten track really made the trip special. You’d be wise to avail yourselves of their services!
