I went to this museum based on the good review, and I really enjoyed it. The rooms and collection are beautiful and with detailed descriptions, and the staffs are also nice. The fan collection is quite interesting as well. It is also free on Saturday mornings.

A wonderful museum housing the collection of a wealthy portuguese trader. Lovely spaces, some wonderful sculptures, pictures and objects and an amazing fan collection. Don't miss it!

If you need to pick up 2 museums to visit while in Lisbon pick this one along Carmo. It is not crowded, compact, the rooms are mesmerizing and simply beautiful. It is a bit out of bitten path but worth the stroll. After visiting you can rest in nearby botanical gardens or drink coffee in a park. I really do recommend it.

I was staying in the hotel in front and while I was waiting for my family to finish breakfast I've visited the museum. What a pleasant surprise. The collection is remarkable and the stories related to the owner´s family and their social life are very interesting. I particularly liked the social rooms (living and dinning)

This house-museum is located in a very tranquil setting in central Lisbon, easily accessible on foot from Rossio Square, and is well worth a visit.

The museum itself has an enormous variety of stunning art forms, including furniture, sculptures, paintings, textiles, and sacred art. There are also collections of fans, Chinese porcelain, watches, clocks and jewellery. The collections are so vast that probably two visits would be better than one.

The building itself is lovely, with polished tiled floors and ornate staircases.

My only gripe is with the information cards.

The temporary exhibition had information in Portuguese, only. The permanent exhibition had laminated information cards in various languages, but these cards - held together by metal rings - were awkward to carry around and in some cases, the information didn’t seem to match the numbered exhibit on the master card. Would be so much better if each exhibit had its own small description card next to it.

Certainly a beautiful museum!
