A tour through a millionaire's former house, replete with beautiful paintings, furniture, sculptures, porcelain, watches & clocks, fans, jewelry, and other miscellanea. I happily spent 3 hours here. Retire cost 3 euros. No gift shop -- one is planned.

We visited this museum early to see what a wealthy Lisbon mansion would be. It was worth the walk and with a nice collection of art and furnishings.

If you're from the Boston area, you're familiar with the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. The Medeiros e Almeida Museum is on the same vein - wealthy couple with vast and eclectic art collection who turned their home into a museum. Wide ranging taste in art. The fan room and the clock rooms in particular are fascinating. One of the rooms has an entire collection of salt and pepper shakers. Definitely a different experience from a traditional museum. We spent about 2 hours there. Definitely recommend.

We went on a Saturday when there was no entrance fee. We were the only ones in the museum, so we could really take our time and check everything out. It was unreal, so many different cultures and artefacts and all so well preserved. A great exhibit, would highly recommend!

This museum is well worth a visit.
The building itself (a former manor) is beautiful and the museum offers a fantastic private collection of furniture and decorative arts.
The museum is located near Avenida da Liberdade, easily accessible on foot from Rossio or from Marques do Pombal Square.
At the time of our visit we had the place to ourselves.
Highly recommended.

It is a former house converted into a museum now full from a life spent collecting. One theme is clear - watches and clocks. From grandfather to mantle to pocket. Many of the timepieces are on time and chime! The employee said the museum has a “watcher of the watches” to maintain, wind, etc. Other items include older furniture, rugs, paintings. My favorite room was his study - Great old desk, chairs, tables and shelves full of books, manuscripts, maps, medals and awards. The owner had quite a history..sports cars, airplanes, airlines (TAP), Azores, a modern conglomerate. Very cool place and almost no one else there.
