An ideal place to pass a bit of time. The convent, ruined in the earthquake, are a beautiful site. The walls an arches mainly still exist, but the roof is now long gone. The archeological museum is small, but contains an interesting mix of objects. As someone who usually hates archeology museums, it was small enough and varied enough to keep me interested.

I loved this museum. The cost to get in is 4euros per person. If you take the yellow bus tour, there was a discount book with 20% off of the entrance.

During the month of June, they had a lights show in the evening which was pretty neat. Not sure if they will have it during other months in the summer.

So - sometime in the mid 18th century, Lisbon suffered a terrible earthquake that tore down most of it! Most of the historical buildings you now see are actually re-constructed. A shining exception (one of two I have seen in this town) is Carmo - the remains of a 14th century church that remained in ruins - but what Magnificent ruins !!

The place now holds a small archaeological museum and evening programs (tickets are sold separately) but these are actually off the main point. Pay the few Euros for the ticket and stroll peacefully down the torn down nave and main row. Stop and look up - the place is STRIKING ! A haven of peacefulness and a great place for meditation, prayer or just amazing views of this dilapidated place.

Very nice spot for some photos and a walk around the ruins of this old church. The entrance is 4 euros and there was no line when we went. The square right outside is also very nice and a decent stop for some lunch or dinner.

The ruins are attached to a modest archaeological museum. The vaulted arches (or what's left of them) make for great pics. The place is a nice escape from the crowds. The museum has a few interesting features (not least the convent architecture) and a couple of truly noteworthy items, most obviously - and disturbingly - the mummified remains of two unfortunates from Peru. Tickets are decently priced at just €4 for adults.
