Pros: clean, excellent location, characterful building and rooms, decent breakfast room where you meet other tourists, amusingly grumpy manageress
Cons: rock-hard beds, a bit noisy from street (but I live In Sweden where silence reigns), lots of stairs, amusingly grumpy manageress,

As a whole, I actually really liked it

We were delighted with our 3 nights at Brazil-Africa. its very well organised and secure - you hand in your keys as you go out and ring the buzzer to get back in (no curfew). Rooms are decorated in the traditional Portuguese way with lots of furniture and kitsch objects but they are immaculately clean and cared for. Ours had a small balcony which allowed us to admire the street and sit outside (about 5 floors up so not for those with vertigo!) The ladies who run the Pensao take such care and pride in the place you feel really welcome and at home. Breakfast is served around a big shared table with as much cereal, toast, cheese and ham and coffee as you need - a great place to meet other travellers. Free internet on a computer in the lounge is very useful too. Be aware that it is on the top floor of the building and is a bit of climb - but its well worth it!

Room Tip: Room lacked a fan but we opened the shutters in the day and the room was cool enough to sleep well at night (even in August!)
