“Probably the worst "5 Star" hotel in Portugal”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 July 2014

This hotel is a terrible choice for most travelers to Lisbon. Unless you have a meeting in the office buildings right next to the hotel, there is absolutely no reason for you to stay in this hotel.

There are many problems with this hotel. The first is location. It is a 10-15 minute walk UPHILL from the nearest Metro station (Marques de Pombal). It is a good 25 minutes walking distance (on nearly non-existent sidewalks next to highways) to the famous Tram 28. It is in a business area with high buildings. There is nothing of note within a mile of this place

Secondly the "5 star" rating seems real suspect. They do not even have Taxis waiting. On any given day it can take anywhere from 5-10 minutes for the poor doorman to hail a taxi. He has to run to the middle of the busy highway (not even kidding) and try to hail down cabs. This theme carries on inside the hotel.

Nearly EVERY service that you can imagine is a separate charge. Internet has a fairly expensive daily charge and to add insult to injury, is very slow. There are NO pressing irons in the room. When I called they said "it was for my safety" but I can have my shirts and pants pressed at the hotel laundry "for just a few euros each". I told them that I had never ever heard of a 5 star hotel that did not offer irons.

The theme of charging for services continues. The pool (which is so heavily advertised on their website) has an additional DAILY charge. On top of that, if you have kids, they can only use the pool between 12 and 5 pm!!! Wow!! They only tell you that AFTER you pay for the pool. The pool is enclosed and not very refreshing

The hotel breakfast is nearly EUR 20 per person!! It does not even match up to normal European (and Portuguese) standards of breakfast. The business center closes early and if you need to print a boarding pass, you have to request the front desk. This theme of nickel and diming continues throughout the hotel. For example, Room Service has stingy portions of food,

The room itself was average sized and is acceptable. The cleanliness was OK and the water in the shower was acceptably hot.

The problem with this hotel is that they offer lower prices that other (and may I say GENUINE) "5 Star" hotels, as the Dom Pedro is so badly located. However, once they trap a client, they try to shake an average of EUR 50 a day from that client via various services that truly should be included in a genuine 5 star hotel

I would advise visitors to Lisbon to pick any other hotel, even if it is classed 3 or 4 stars. This particular hotel won't last very long in the marketplace.

Room Tip: Choose a high floor

This is a typical large teaming with people hotel. The rooms are comfortable and if you are facing the sea, very nice indeed. At breakfast , you have the feeling of a railway station, but somehow everyone gets looked after. Restaurants and bars deliver good service for such a large hotel.

I had two purposes in staying at the Dom Pedro - I was working for the first three, and then my wife joined me for a short break. The hotel location is poor - a long drag uphill (hard with suitcases) from either the Marques de Pombal or Rato metro stations. Staff are very pleasant and attentive. Food is reasonably good, rooms are pleasant. the Epic Sana across the road has an open air, rooftop swimming pool; the Dom Pedro has an enclosed spa area and charges guests an additional fee to use it. This is a shame - the hotel would be improved by an open air (free!) swimming pool. Conference facilities are good. There is a shopping mall across the street.

Room Tip: Best views are at the front - you can see the harbour from a high floor.

I do not really like the kind of place were the piccolo takes over your luggage as soon as you get out of the taxi. As if I would not be able to take care of that one single suitcase that I'm carrying with me.
But apart from that I was quite satisfied with my stay in the Dom Pedro. Rooms are spacious, breakfast is really good and the staff is really helpful.
Only disadvantage is that it is quite far from the interesting parts in the city center. The closest metro station is on a 10 minutes walk. Four tourist trips to Lisbon, I would prefer another hotel closer to the city center, but for business reasons this is a very good place to stay.

This is a quality establishment, with all the amenities associated with a well run hotel. The room was spacious, and the bathroom was well laid out. Breakfast was very good. The only disappointment, as mentioned by others, was the location. Although right across the street from a very large shopping mall, it was rather far from the many fine restaurants and shops in the center of the city.

The hotel offers large comfortable rooms, big bathrooms, good breakfast and the staff are helpful and pleasant. However the only place nearby is the Amoreiras shopping center, which is a 2 minute walk away. At this shopping center there is a large supermarket and many shops.

Apart from that you need to walk into the city center (30 mins apx) or get a taxi ride (apx. 5 Euros), so despite the fact the hotel is nice, the location has nothing going for it.

Room Tip: The rooms offer large doublé beds or two large singles next to each other, depending on preference y...

We stayed here in a triple share room for 2 nights in June. The hotel was nice and the room spacious and nicely furnished but the location was too far away from town.
Would recommend staying closer to the Old town considering how hilly this city is.
Laundry also takes too long to do.
