Very good and comfortable hotel. Other reviewers are right to comment on the smallish size of the rooms for a hotel of this grade. The rooms are very well appointed however and the hotel is very well located.
We stayed here for two nights, in order to explore Lisbon. The hotel is in an excellent location and we found it very easy to get around the city.
The hotel itself was good. The room (701) was a fair size although the bathroom was somewhat cramped, and I didn't really like the double doors on it that didn't shut very well. Someone also needs to change the batteries in the bathroom scale, which was not working. The room overlooked the main Liberdade Avenue and was a little noisy. That said, everything was clean and it was comfortable.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. And I would not expect anything less from Sofitel. I particularly liked the young woman who served in the bar; extremely polite, very efficient and very helpful.
The restaurant is fine. We ate their in the evening on our first night, mainly because we were too tired to be more adventurous. It was a welcoming environment and the food was good, if not exceptional.
Breakfast in the mornings was very busy and we were kept waiting for a table on both mornings.
Our troubles started when we tried to enter the car park.... Waiting at the sign that said "Proceed at Green Signal"... Unfortunately there was NO signal at all.... Not red, not green.... Nothing.... So, having arrived back at the front we checked in....
A very warm welcome at the front desk and we went up to our room. Now... room sizes in hotels I find are quite standard with relatively little to distinguish them.... So when you choose a standard, superior or deluxe you can be fairly sure what it is you will get... However, the Deluxe at The Sofitel Lisbon can only be described as a small.... Additionally, we were placed right next door to the lift and unfortunately there was nothing else available. While there was a lovely terrace, its not exactly sun lounger weather in Lisbon during December....
Cases sat down and I opened the doors to what I presumed was the wardrobe and unfortunately it turned out to be the bathroom.... Which had not been cleaned as well as it might, with smears on the stonework and dust and annoyingly the double doors did not actually close fully.
The wardrobe itself is wholly insufficient, out of four shelves, two are taken up with a blanket, & advertising materials for other Sofitel hotels. The one single clothes rail is not a left to right rail but a front to back, so limited to just 10 inches of hanging space, which for two people is woeful in a four star but totally unacceptable in a five star.
Nearing one am after a lovely night at Sushi Cafe, and unable to find a "Do Not Disturb" sign we went to bed. At 0850 on Saturday morning - today - we were awoken by Housekeeping walking in. So much for the peaceful morning. Now awake, we looked around the room for a "Do Not Disturb" sign. this was found, ON THE FLOOR beside the wardrobe.... We hung it outside the door and tried to get back to sleep... Being by the lift and the noise of the hotel we could not get back to sleep so I decided to do a small bit of work and check my emails. But could we get the wifi to work... not a chance...
My partner asked me how much we were paying and I mentioned that for a five star it was cheaper but as a five star I had hoped for more.... Alas he refused to & still does refuse to believe that the Sofitel Lisbon is a Five Star hotel.... I have to agree with him, never judge a book by its cover as this woeful den of disappointment has a long way to go before it can justify its five star rating....
So I showered, dressed and am writing this review down in the lobby which is the only place I can get a reliable signal.....
Room tip - Room 633 is supposedly some kind of Deluxe rating but every traveller should avoid it as its right by the lifts & without an adequate level of storage, the bathroom sockets are loose fitting & you can clearly hearth doors closing in the rooms around you.
Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your stay with us at Sofitel Lisbon Liberdade.
We are glad to know that you received a warm welcome by our Front Desk Ambassadors and that you appreciated our terrace even though the weather did not allow you to make the most out of it. It is quiet a shame as our autumn this year was quiet generous and we have had beautiful sunny days, which would have without doubt given you a pleasurable moment to enjoy the comfort of our terrace.
Nonetheless, it is with great regret that we come to know that we have not met your expectations overall. Please accept our sincerest apologies for the inconveniences you faced during your time with us.
All the comments mentioned in your feedback have deserved our full attention and consideration with our team. We will do our best to avoid future occurrences like these except in some cases such as the bathroom doors which are a design of our hotel and which are not planned to be modified in the near future.
It is very important for us to receive feedback from our Guests, as it helps us improve our services and facilities to provide you with the comfort and well-being that you deserve.
We hope to have the pleasure to welcome you once again in our hotel to surpass your expectations on your next visit to Lisbon.
An enjoyable stay - but the room (Superior) was a bit smaller than I would have anticipated from a 5-star hotel. The breakfasts were excellent, with prompt and efficient service. Overall, this is a hotel I would definitely recommend.
We stayed here for 3 nights over Thanksgiving - I tend to pick Sofitel when it is available in a city because they have always treated Le Club Platinum members very well, and the Lisboa Liberdade location was no different. We were pleasantly welcomed with early check-in and a complimentary upgrade to a junior suite which was beautifully furnished and a nice rest after a redeye flight. The location is very good, about a 3 minute walk from the nearest Metro and a 7 minute walk to Rossio Square (15 minutes to Praca Comercio); we had no problem hitting most of the tourist hot spots and was always a short walk away from a nice late-night snack or drink. The service was impeccable and we had our Nespresso pods and other consumables replenished almost instantly after request. I greatly recommend Sofitel if you are looking for a nice location at a reasonable price point and would double that recommendation if you are a Le Club member, because you will be treated quite nicely!
