“Extremely enjoyable hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 November 2009

We spent 5 days with my parents in this hotel for my mother's 85 birthday. She was hesitant to travel from Germany at first but then she loved it so much. The hotel is very comfortable with nicely decorated rooms, cosy beds, nice bathrooms and very good room service. The location is very good, metro station in from of the hotel and 10 minutes walking distance to Rossio, Baixa etc. But the best of all is definitely the staff who made any effort to make it a wonderful stay including a birthday table with sparkling wine and a cake!
When booking through booking.com (or others) be aware that some rooms have windows to the inner court with now view but to a wall. Those are very quiet but if you want a view one would probably have to contact the hotel directly. When we arrived and wanted to change the room they made great efforts and got my parents a room at the 8th floor with a marvellous view which was really the hit!

Spent 3 nights here and were delighted with the hotel. location is perfect for walking to Barrio Alto, Rossio, Alfama. Distances on maps of Lisbon are VERY deceiving due to the incredible hilliness, so it pays to stay close. In same area as some of the grand old hotels which were so pricey. Booked a superior room on line on some predpaid deal which worked out to about $200/night. Not cheap, but worth it, and probably would be a 300+ room in any other big city. Plush room on top floor. Very quiet. Robes, slippers, fancy bathroom, nightlye turn down service. AC worked well (it was still warm in Lisbon in late Oct) and we found the desk staff very helpful with suggestions for places to go, eat, etc. We passed on the expensive buffet breakfast to save $ and calories for lunch and dinner. Lots of nearby cafes. Had been debating between this and one of the Fenix hotels. Drove by them on the taxi in from the airport and altho I'm sure they're fine(and less expensive, which was their attraction), the location was markedly poorer. 2 days would have been enough for lisbon but the third day we went out to Belem, which was very nice also. went to a fado performance at Cafe Luso -just went in at midnight after dinner for drinks and music - wonderful, at times mesmerizing experience. wish we had gone to more.

I am a Rick Steve's fan to get valuable information about what to see and do while visiting Europe. But I always come to TripAdvisor to get real comments from many different people about the hotels. I settled for Lisbon Sofitel because of the comments and thank you everyone.

After traveling many hours all the way from California, we stumbled off the crowded Aerobus and walked a couple of blocks, laden with our backpacks and small suitcase to reach our hotel. Even though it was the end of September, the weather was hot. When we entered the hotel it was like a refreshing oasis as the staff clamored to help us unload and check in. The rooms are small in comparison to American hotels, but that is expected. There were nice touches throughout the room that indicates this is an upscale hotel. It is modern and clean, king bed with the comfy robes and slippers provided. We did have a bit of frustration trying to figure out the shower controls but no biggie. They do provide a PC in the Business Center behind the reception desk where I was able to keep up with my European trip blog. Warning. The keyboards are different, so it was hunt and peck.

The hotel is located right at the end of the modern section of Lisbon and just a block or so away we started exploring the old town section. So the location was perfect. If anyone is planning to visit Lisbon, we would highly recommend the Lisbon Sofitel. One thing we discovered the last night of our trip. We opted to go to different restaurants in the old sections of Lisbon, not realizing the hotel had a restaurant with prices that didn't bowl us over. So give it a try.

This hotel is at an ideal location with walking distance to key areas of Lisbon. Even though the building is old (square windows), it is a clean and safe. The hotel rates do not include breakfast. The staff is not friendly. Any question from a guest seems like a nuisance for them. It is very close to all public transportation/trains. The hotel is a bit noisy from the street traffic during certain. Perhaps it has to do with the fact that the building is old.
Overall, it is a safe and clean hotel if you want to disregard the unfriendly staff, no breakfast and some traffic noise.

I can not say enough good things about this hotel. Given the large number of good comments on Sofitel Lisbon from other travellers, we decided to give it a try for 3 nights and it didn’t disappoint. We walked into the hotel and were welcomed by this lady reception staff called Claudia who were extremely polite, friendly and helpful. She did all the standard steps for us to check in and when we asked for restaurants recommendations and tourist attractions, she bring out a map and showed us exactly where most of the tourist attractions are on the map. She then suggested a few restaurants for us to go to and those were good recommendations as well.

We were visiting Lisbon for our 5th wedding anniversary and I mentioned it on our on-line hotel bookings. On the first night back after a fulfilling sight-seeing trip during the day, they surprised us with a bottle of free champagne and a yummy tiramisu cake! That is very impressive and we appreciated that.

Room cleaning were well-done throughout the 3 nights we spent there and the bed is extremely comfortable as mentioned by some other travellers’ comments. Location: 20 seconds to the subway, what more can you ask for? Internet is available free for hotel guests. The only criticism I can think of is they don’t provide body lotion in their bathroom and the room preparation staff has only given us one pair of slippers.

Very central, very nice hotel. Rooms are great, staff are great - we really liked it. Small criticism, breakfast service a bit slow and a bit expensive - other than that, excellent.

By all means an excellent hotel - at the right price, besides. Rooms might be a little tiny, but they are extremely well decorated and practical. The hotel design per se is terrific, and so is the service - not to mention the quality of the local restaurant. The location is also perfect. I will definitely go again next time I am on a trip to Lisbon.
