“Excellent Price / Value and Lovely Experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 November 2013

The Room was spacious, simple and charming. The Guesthouse is located in a quiet street near the metro station cas de soudré which is very convenient as you can take the Metro from the airport. Cas de Soudré is the final station and from there it is but a five minutes walk to the Guesthouse. The staff is helpful and truly gives good advice. We first were a bit sceptical when they recommended their other guesthouse (the Belvedere) for dinner, but we did not regret it: it was really a lovely and excellent dinner.
The guesthouse is very close to the city center: about a ten minutes walk, and just behind the fruit and flower market. Apart from one night when the restaurant in the opposite building was having a ball it was quiet and we had a good rest.
The breakfast contains fruits, bread, porutguese pastry and an excellent coffee. Their home made Jam is really delicious. But it is more a southern European breaktfast with a sweet tooth. Though I enjoyed the fact to have a good excuse to indulge in the Portuguese pastry.
Finally the area is very safe - as is Lisbon. And I must say, being a citizen from the Heart of Europe: from all Southern Europeans the Portuguese really won me over: So enjoy Lisbon, their kind inhabitants and this lovely guesthouse.

We are a French couple from Montreal Canada, we did a trip of one month in Portugal this last October 2013 and we stayed in 17 hotels. We started with this one. We stayed 4 nights September 25th-28th 2013. It is a “Guesthouse” we were in room 404. Price: 100 Euros a night with breakfast. Pros: well located closed to everything (train, metro, bus, etc.), good breakfast, leaving space at 5th floor, clean, free Internet Wi-Fi in the room, nice persons at the reception, warm and helpful. Cons: very small room, no counter in the bathroom for cosmetics etc., street noisy we had to close windows and turn on the AC or sleep with ear plugs to be able to sleep, hard bed, no parking available, quite expensive: that was our most expensive hotel in all Portugal. We recommend that guesthouse.

Room Tip: Ask for room 403

Located in walking distance to everything in the old town and right next to metro and train station. Surprisingly good breakfast with freshly squeezed juice, home made jams and pancakes. Nice, light rooms with soundproof windows (close them at night if your room is facing the market). Super friendly staff was very helpful with recommendations for restaurants and sights. We had some trouble finding the guesthouse, as there is only a small sign on the wall.

Our plan was to stay 3 nights CLOSE to the river & close to our transportation hub. The plumbing was out in "our" room, no others available, so we were moved up a very steep hill to a sister property. We are seniors. I must stress the staff was exceptionally nice. But, this was too much of an incline for us to tackle each evening to have a nightly walk along the river. BUT, that room was only available one night so the staff of very nice people moved us again to an apartment around the corner of the 2nd hotel. The apartment was quite nice, we just walked around the corner to get our breakfast the following two days. The group comp'd my husband and I for a lovely dinner at their other hotel (that has a charming reservation only restaurant) and provided us with a bottle of wine. We had accommodations that were rack rate more expensive that our original reservation which they honored without discussion. Sadly, I would have been happier in the location we booked. Nothing could make up for the change we had to make not being close to what we wanted to really do. The neighborhood is authentic (read: lots of homeless people and uncollected trash). Our hotels were spotless, breakfast weak. I would not stay in this area of Lisbon again, no fault of the property. Things happen, they tried to make it right, thank you.

From the moment we arrived at the Ribeira Tejo Boutique Guesthouse till the day of our departure we felt cared for, content and relaxed - We enjoyed our stay and this place enhanced our Lisbon experience.

The staff were pretty amazing, just generally so attentive, friendly and helpful. The day we arrived we met Hatie, she immediately made us feel relaxed and welcome, she made us coffee and spent time with us - chatting, showing us maps and offering advice on site - seeing. This initial positive experience with the guesthouse staff was important as it really set the relaxed and friendly tone for the rest of our stay.

The location was really interesting - in lively city neighborhood... with busy bars cafes and restaurants - maybe at night it was a little 'colourful' but we always felt safe in Lisbon no matter what the time.

Our room was beautiful, spacious, comfortable and stylish with a little balcony overlooking the street and river. Like other guests we thought that there may be an issue with street noise but the double windows/shutters blocked everything out perfectly and we slept well

The buffet breakfast was another highlight of our stay - served right up till 10:30.... home made cakes yummi!!, crepes, fresh fruit, breads and juice.

The location was pretty good right beside the river with train and subway links on its doorstep. It really was the perfect base to explore all the interesting parts of he city - all just a walk away.

With its reasonable rates, attentive friendly staff, good location, stylish interiors and great breakfast ...would we go back? - yes!!

Room Tip: Try and get a room with a river view The higher the better

On arrival, we were given the most amazing personalized service at reception. He (sorry cant remember the name) took great care in finding out exactly what we were interested in and highlighted all the points of interest on our map, made restaurant recommendations and made some suggestions of where to stroll and take in the evening atmosphere off the beaten track and away from the busier tourist areas in the centre. The guesthouse also had a kitchen open to guests where you can help yourself to tea/coffee and cakes. Room was small with no view but as we didn't spend that much time there, it didn't really matter. Great location and all major attractions within walking distance. Overall, however, it was the friendly and helpful staff that made our stay very special. We were cycling the Portuguese Camino and needed to get a bag transferred to Coimbra and Rita was so helpful in contacting the transport company and organising the whole thing for us.

Positives: Really nicely decorated, friendly staff (variable from clueless to super helpful, but nice). Good breakfast.
Negatives: Damn noisy - our room overlooked the market and despite an admirable attempt at glazing and shutterboards, the noise of bars and market activity destroyed my sleep (note - I'm a light sleeper however).
Beware that this is more of a hostel feel than you'd glean from the super slick website - I love the hostel vibe, and this one differs in that the rooms ARE chic, but this is on the upper end of prices at hostels.

Also, location is superb but proved a little hard for taxi to find first time - Lisbon taxis have a habit of conveniently forgetting routes, roadblocks and locations while the meter is still running.

We let them down a little by booking in a big party for dinner, weeks ahead, but cancelling out of exhaustion earlier in the evening. They informed us that the sister restaurant opens exclusively for these bookings - We felt bad about this but they'd help by being more up front with people in future - they pitch it as a restaurant not a sporadic cooking effort.

Room Tip: Can only say if on the market side, I had a hell of a lot of noise at 3rd floor

The Ribeira Tejo by Shiadu was once by the river… Actually only the Mercado da Ribeira and the Cais do Sodre station separate the fully renovated building of the Ribeira Tejo by Shiadu from the River Tagus. Take the lift to the 4th floor and simply use the stair to go up to the 5th floor, where you will find the best view at the Ribeira Tejo by Shiadu. There is nothing better than friendly and dedicated staff to welcome you and serve you a delicious home-made breakfast where you will have the opportunity of watching the ships go by, crossing under the 25th of April Bridge along with looking out to the Cristo Rei always on the lookout for any movement. Then, filled with energy you may begin your visit of Lisbon through the neighbourhoods of Chiado, Baixa and Bairro Alto which are less than a 10 minute walk-away from the Guesthouse, or if you prefer, you may also get on the No. 15 tram or the No. 28 tram to Alfama and Belem.
