This is a very cool, design hotel. It definitley has a character and the decor is superb. I like unique places like that.

The good: very cool lobby, trendy design, free coffee, tea, and hot chocolate in the lobby, good Wifi, nice rooms, iMacs and iPads in each room! Excellent location close to everything. Decent price.

The bad: weak customer service, there was no one there when we hav earrived and we had to wait for quite sometime for someone to show up. When we asked for later chack out they gave us extra 30 minutes, which wasn't helpful at all. They do not have a parking, restaurant or breakfast, which is quite inconvienient. The room, although very nicely designed are super small (and we had a medium room), the bathroom was so tiney that it was difficult to turn around inside. Pillows super thick and hard so hurt my neck.

We had a delightful two-day stay at Brown's Downtown. Duarte, Jorge and the rest of the staff were absolutely charming and helpful during our visit. We first visited Brown's Downtown in 2013 (while staying in Bairo Alto) and decided it would be a better choice for lodging in Lisbon. We were not disappointed!

The hotel is beautifully appointed, especially the lobby and common areas (mid-century modern plus 18th century architecture? Utterly fabulous). Each room is beautiful/unique and the linens/towels are gorgeous. If you want an ideal base from which to explore Lisbon, this is the perfect hotel. It is located in the flat section (Baixa) and many attractions are a short walk from the hotel (cathedral, Castel Sao Jorge, Alfama, etc.). When we visit Lisbon again, we will definitely return to Brown's Downtown! Kathy Besser, The Party Evangelist

This is a great hotel to stay at while in Lisbon. It is located in a quite street, parallel to a main shopping / restaurant street. There is plenty of public transport very close by, including buses, metros and trams. A short walk takes you to the Rossio train station, one of the main inter-city train stations in Lisbon. It is also located close to a lot of the sights you may want to see in Lisbon.

The room was quite small, but very welcoming. The bed was large, but a bit firm, with great pillows. The room was equipped with an iPad, a Mac computer, fantastic free wifi, a large TV and a number of different sound systems.

The staff all spoke English very well, and really knew a lot about Lisbon including getting around and where to eat / what to do.

There was a coffee machine in the lobby with great, free coffee. We did not go for the breakfast as we felt that it was a bit pricey and we wanted the ability to eat on the go. One morning we did however eat at the coffee shop next door, where breakfast for the hotel was served. The pastries were fresh and well priced. We spent a lot less than if we had to have the included breakfast.

Overall, a really comfortable, memorable stay. Good value for money. We would definitely stay there again.

What a lovely surprise when I checked into Browns it is just lovely. The staff are so friendly and helpful. The rooms are very tastefully decorated and have everything you would need including a fridge, and two rings for cooking if you want to use them. The room and bathroom were spotless and the shower was really good. The lobby of this hotel is fantastic, really classy with fabulous lights and chairs. The area is full of restaurants and bars and just a couple of minutes walk to the Metro so the location is just fantastic. Well done Browns.

We loved this small hotel, whole decoration and atmosphere. Even a staff at a reception desk was very helpful, kind and attentive. Our room 410 was small and breakfast every day the same, but overall with the best central location and whole ambience in the hotel I would deffinitely recommend this hotel!

Brown's Downtown is conveniently located less than 2 blocks outside the Barrio Alto metro station. It isn't well marked, unless you know to be looking for the Brown's Coffee Shop, which is the first floor of the hotel. The room I stayed in was very nice and modern. My only complaint, and the reason I'm not giving it 5 stars, is due to the lack of WiFi as advertised. There was a Mac computer and iPad in the room, but they were useless with the wireless internet being out. The front desk acknowledged that their wireless wasn't working upstairs, but I also couldn't get it to work in the coffee shop, so I walked to the Starbucks in Rossio Station whenever I needed internet access. Hopefully they have fixed by now, but overall, I have no regrets about staying here!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with one of the mini-balconies overlooking the street

Hotel staff was very helpful and courteous. Hotel and room were very nicely decorated. Double bedroom was clean and equipped with iMac and iPad with free Wi-Fi. Bathroom is simply gorgeous and spa rainshower control. Short walking distance to public transportation, city elevators to visit major attractions, yellow bus, tram, restos, supermarket, pharmacy and so much more.
