Owner description: Carris is pleased to make public its memories and its contribution to Lisbon's growth for more than a century. This city has developed along with its public transport system. The existence of the Museum has two distinct and complementary reasons. The first concerns the creation of a collection based on historical and valuable objects, to ensure a global and updated knowledge of the company. The second aspect is the exposure of patrimony in order to contribute to the cultural development of the community and also to consolidate the company's image among the public. Internally, the Museum enhances human performance of its staff by strengthening their professional integrity, thanks to a deeper knowledge of the company.Carris Museum allows the visitor to take a journey through time using documents and objects that are placed at their disposal: reports, photos, uniforms, transport tickets, workshop equipment, trams, buses...

“A must for transport enthusiasts”
Reviewed 13 June 2014

Great value at €4 tracing the history of transport in Lisbon. After completing the first galleries, you are transported by tram to a garage containing trams and buses, many of which you can enter. All the information boards have English translation and are extremely detailed. You reach the third and final garage by another tram ride to view more modern buses and vehicles and an underground train cab.

Staff are very friendly and helpful, there is a small gift shop, a great way to pass a couple of hours.
Accessible by tram no 15 which stops opposite the entrance to the depot

“Y must visit this place becasue of multimedia story about Lisbon”
Reviewed 2 February 2014

The museum is located in the Santo Amaro Depot which still houses all Lisbon’s trams today. The Carris Museum is a cultural center presenting the past, the present and the future of public transport of the city of Lisbon.
But it isn't most important.
Here Y can see brilliant and fantastic multimedia "movie" made from pictures and sounds only (no lecturer) which shows impressive city history over the centuries.

“Wonderful little museum - well worth a visit”
Reviewed 12 September 2013

Passed the Carris museum on the Number 15 tram going to the Congress Centre and decided to walk back for a visit one lunchtime. Got what we expected - collection of old trams, buses, memorabilia but so much more with the ride on the vintage tram which was fantastic.
Definitely a good place to bring children too as you are encouraged to clamber all over the old trams and buses.
Excellent value and lovely to see the history of a company that's still the main public transport carrier in Lisbon.

“A hidden gem”
Reviewed 7 July 2013

We were riding the tram toward the Museum of the Carriages and THOUGHT that was where we were, but what a great surprise! This is the museum of the Carris Campany, owners of the famous Tram 28 and many other very interesting conveyances in Lisbon including the "elevator" trams we call funiculars. Very engaging staff. We had the place to ourselves and got to ride a tram through the yard between buildings. They need to advertise more-some of the hotel staff had not heard of it. Well worth the time.
