The hotel receptionist was in the wrong job! It was almost too much trouble for her to check us in, and asking for any information was as much use as a chocolate chisel! We had to fight the porter to relinquish hold of our luggage, he was not going to let it go until he got a tip!
Parking the car was also a nightmare, but could have been made a lot easier if the the hotel receptionist had given us some information!
On the plus side the rooms were OK, except for the noise transmission from the floor above. breakfast was also OK
I think for the money thought there would be much better placebo stay in Lisbon.

Room Tip: Use another hotel!

A gem of a hotel, not too impressive on the outside and then you step inside into the retro black and white foyer. The hotel has some excellent touches which are just the right side of cheesy and so aren't tacky but instead are tasteful, a lifesize Audrey Hepburn is inside one lift, rooms are named after films/ directors/ actors, and there are famous film quotes written on the corridors, "my momma always said life was like a box of chocolates........" was written on ours.

Room was spotlessly clean, bed was comfy and the room had a fab retro feel, will definitely be back.

I don't understand the comments about reception staff, they were lovely, very friendly and helpful and even made jokes.

My wife and daughter and I stayed for 2 nights in early July 2013.

The lady on the front desk when we arrived did not say "Hello" or "Welcome to the hotel" either in English or Portugese, she just looked at us like she hadn't a clue what we were doing there. Very strange that after all the previous comments about unfriendly staff going back many months that this issue has not been dealt with. Also very strange that you would put someone like this on the front desk in the first place.

The aircon system is poor and is inadequate to deal with the heat of Lisbon.

The breakfast is good and the view from the breakfast room is great, location is good, the movie theme is nice, these are why I have not rated it lower.

Stayed here for a week. Rooms clean with wooden floors, so when someone is walking on the floor above you can hear every step. Issues with bathroom, not my room but friends. Sink wouldn't drink. English spoken only so-so, communication an issue. Restaurant end of block with meals average 10 Euro, good food and free Internet. Didn't pay the 5 euro a day for Internet at this hotel as I was out most of the day. No pool, air conditioning worked well as it as 36 C on some days.

Nice hotel,
been here on a weekend, with my wife.
It's a design style hotel, inspired by cinema, all rooms dedicated to a movie or an actor, spacious room, '60s style furniture, good general cleanliness, good room clenliness
Breakfast ok
within walking distance from the center

Room Tip: better choose a room from the 3rd floor and above, you'll have the chance to get a balcony.

The hotel is in a perfect location. The Metro is a 2 minute walk away, there are good restaurants, and a small supermarket within 5 minutes. The rooms are large and comfortable, and the house-keeping is excellent. There is lots of natural light in the rooms, The décor is clean and modern.
No breakfast and pay internet.

I am pleased that I went to this hotel for several reasons although I also have some misgivings about a few things.

Yes-yes!

Great location!
Marvelous view of the Praca Marques de Bompal from the breakfast room. Very nice. Also, the buffet is very good.

Good staff! Almost all of them very helpful and positive, particularly the charming Sonia!

Very good bed, upon which it is easy to get a good night’s sleep.

AC was also good and reliable and not noisy.

So-so

The rooms are reasonably sized, but the movie motif is a bit jejune.

The phone is small, the list of connections is extremely small and the cord is a tangled mess.
TV has about 30 channels some of which are good (hurray for Mezzo!) but could add more in music and news (Fox news is not there while the two worst in the world – BBC and CNN – are present).

Room has a small refrigerator but there is nothing in it. For example, if you want ice you have to call the bar.

No-no!

My bathroom had a bad smell, as if one of the drains had something stuck in its throat. Five days of that and the hotel staff never seemed to have noticed. Bad show.

No bottled water in the room.

No tissues in the room.

Web service through something called Fractalia was very, very slow. Cost seemed reasonable until one confronted the turgid pace!

Long distance phone calls cost and arm and a leg!

All said, I would recommend this hotel as a good place to stay, with reasonable prices in spite of a series of shortcomings.
