Let's get real. This is a three star hotel that's 44 pounds sterling a night and it's near the centre of town. What on earth do people expect for their money?
My room was on the 8th floor, had two single beds and a bathroom. It was spotlessly clean, the towels were changed every day (even though it wasn't necessary), it was comfortable, it had a desk and a chair. I had at least 10 channels in English on the TV - and not the usual rotten news channels you so often get either.
The front desk staff are helpful, if reserved. The cleaners are wonderful and jolly.
Breakfast is plentiful and alternated daily between bacon and frankfurters as the hot offering while I was there, along with scrambled eggs. And there were ham, mortadella, cheese, croissants, bread, pastries and cakes. Coffee and orange squash too.
It isn't smelly. It doesn't have mould. The WiFi worked flawlessly throughout the 4 days I was there. The towels aren't grey and threadbare. The sheets are fresh and new.
Yes, they could do it up and it would cost 100 pounds or more a night. I'd rather have it just the way it is, eccentric, olde worlde, doorless lifts, old fashioned doors to the rooms.
I love it and I'll be back.More
