“Wonderful stay and highly recommend”
Reviewed 22 June 2014 via mobile

We stayed here for 5 nights in the last week of May, and even though the hotel was at capacity for most of our stay, the staff were excellent and we had a very enjoyable stay. First of all, the rooftop gym at this hotel is superb. It is my understanding that Lisbon locals (who can afford it) are also able to obtain memberships. The cardio equipment and weights are the best of any hotel gym and the trainers who work at the gym are very friendly. We stayed in a junior suite and found it very comfortable. On our last night we were upgraded to a full suite and in my opinion, the junior suites have a much better floor plan. The full suite is ok if you need a large living/dining room area to work in. Park views are only available if you have a full suite, but the view from our junior suite was fine. You are not I. Lisbon to look out the windows. The breakfast buffet offers a wide selection of options and the fruit was very good. We had dinner in the bar our first evening and the meal was excellent and yes, it was expensive but you are paying for the convenience. There are 2 very good, moderately priced restaurants within walking distance of the hotel, the first one is called Grei and the 2nd one is Mezzaluna. Grei is literally a 7 minute walk. The concierge arranged 4 day trips for us. The driver/guide (Miquel Mendes) was excellent and we would highly recommend his services. The Rolling Stones stayed at the hotel when we were here and we saw the keyboardist posing for pics with fans by the front doors.

I gave the hotel only 3 stars based on mixed management results in room cleanliness, suite updates, and views. I was given a sharp edged broken drinking glass one night and even after booking a suite, was originally assigned a room with stained carpet, a dirty and broken tiled balcony, with a view of the parking lot and it's messy lot roof. The second day, my room was changed to the park view suite I originally paid for.
My requests for a feather free room were ignored which resulted in a terrible first night. My gluten free requests were also initially ignored, it took two days to communicate to the breakfast management and this was only after I went directly to management with my breakfast plate that was served over gluten toast. There appears to an issue with communication. I was served treats in my suite that were not gluten free the first few days.
On the bright side, the Bar staff got it right immediately, and were gracious in accommodating my gluten/casein sensitivities. The bar guys were great and the food and drinks were fabulous.
The concierge people were well trained and very helpful.
Funny, there are two heavy glass doors to enter the hotel, only the outside door was opened by the bellman. The second interior door was heavy for me and cumbersome while carrying packages or luggage.
This hotel doesn't represent the Four Seasons well, it's not even known as the Four Seasons in Lisbon. The huge sign facing the center of town spells RITZ with no mention of Four Seasons. While the common areas were obviously designed by the Four Seasons and are beautiful, this hotel is missing the service one expects from Four Seasons.

Room Tip: Request Park View!

The Ritz is a quality hotel with a great Lisbon location that has convenient access to parks, shops, and restaurants. The only negative is that the food and drink availabile in the hotel, while very good, is very expensive. We spent the same amount in the hotel for two drinks as we did for an entire dinner at a local restaurant.

We stayed at The Ritz at the end of a tour of Northern Spain and Portugal and I must say it's one of the best hotels I've ever used. Rooms are large, facilities extraordinary. Staff very courteous and friendly - special praise for the concierge who organised excursions and the best Fado experience possible! It's in a quiet part of town with fantastic views over the city, yet not far from the shopping and entertainment districts.
I can strongly recommend The Ritz.

We wanted very much to like this hotel. At the price we paid for our premium high-floor room and the very expensive drinks and snacks in the bar, we expected to have a great and romantic end to our 3 week trip. Instead, we were eager to go home.

Housekeeping: our room was still not made up when we returned after 2pm. When I inquired at the front desk, I was told that the hotel was "full" and staff were busy. This was inexcusable for a hotel of this level.

Check-in: we had the mis-fortune to arrive behind a tour group. Instead of the desk staff forming one line for the tour group and another for independent travelers, we had to wait behind the tour group. When I have been part of a tour group, the tour group guide gathered all of our passports, checked us in and handed out the room keys. Instead the Four Seasons staff dealt with each tour group customer individually, answering questions that should have been re-directed to the tour guide or the concierge. And yes, front desk staff knew we were in line, as I asked the concierge if there was a faster check-in process available for us (there was not). If the Four Seasons continues as a TOUR GROUP hotel, (I suspect it may as the hotel lobby and bar were not busy other than with tour group members) I suggest it address ways to better handle tour group check-ins. (PS: a tray of perishable tea sandwiches that went to waste because we were not in our room when they were delivered and we had already eaten before we returned to the room for the night, did not compensate for the check-in experience.)
The check-in set the tone for the stay.

Concierge Staff: were outstanding with getting us a rental car and suggesting restaurants.

Some front desk staff: went out of their way to accommodate us. They are the reason we choose to stay at the Ritz, Four Seasons and other top tier hotels at least once during each trip.

Door staff: outstanding.

Location: really far removed from the sights we came to see. Unlike others on this site who speak of 5 Euro taxi rides, ours were 10-12 Euro taxi rides, each way. And for most places, especially in the rain, you need a taxi. We are walkers and walk 5-8 miles a day on vacation, but the hills and the distance from the hotel and the rain meant we took taxis. On the basis of location alone, I would choose a different hotel for a sightseeing base. For the business traveler, the location is likely not an issue. And having just seen Retiro Park in Madrid and the gardens in Cordoba and Seville, I thought Eduardo Park was illl-kept and uninspiring. So the view of and proximity to the park did not add to my experience of the Four Seasons.

Expense of bar, food: We know that nice restaurants and good food can be expensive, but the prices at the Four Season were very hefty. Due to the distance to other restaurants ( and taking into account the roundtrip price of the taxi added in) and that we would need to venture out at night into the rain, we did eat here. I cannot remember the food or the wine. But I do remember the price; truly memorable tabs.

Lobby: dated decor. No romance; no eye-candy.

I was really impressed by the service at the FS Lisboa. It is definitely a 5 star hotel in a great location to explore Lisbon. The spa and the exercise facilities are amazing. Breakfast was great and they were very generous attentive with my son.

We're very happy to know you were "treated like royalty" and that you found our location, spa & rooftop fitness facilities "amazing". Our service is something we take great pride in and we're happy that we impressed you, and of course our little guests are just as important as our big guests and we're glad to hear your son was well taken care of.

The hotel is absolutely gorgeous and our suite was superb, with all the comforts one could want. Breakfast in the restaurant adjoining the terrace (dine inside or out) was an experience to savor. Stunningly beautiful room, superb service, enormous buffet with everything you can imagine wanting for breakfast, whatever your origins. The bar was graciously managed and staffed. We were always greeted by name. Our only nit-pick is that our room was not cool enough for us the first day - we really like our AC - but they fixed it promptly and we had no further problem.
