“A bit of a let down for the price”
Reviewed 8 April 2009

Recently stayed in this hotel for 2 nights in April 2009.
Good points
Service in the hotel was excellent if not OTT, could not stir my coffee without having a new spoon brought over, and doors always open for you when you entered the hotel.
Water was hot and the shower was excellent
To me, there are some basics when staying in a hotel, one is a good nights sleeping and the other is the breakfast, and these two points were a massive failure.
The rooms and the hotel in general were very hot and found it near impossible to get my room temperature down and made for a very uncomfortable night’s sleep.
The breakfast was a massive disappointment and the food in the restaurant was very average.
For around £250 a night, I have stayed in allot better than this for less than half the price.

We stayed at the FS Lisbon almost a year ago. We got a very beautiful room facing a huge park. Our room was gigantic, the decoration was very tasty. The staff was professional and very helpful, and the concierge knew the city by heart, recommending great restaurants, shops and other attractions! I wouldn't recommend hiring one of the hotel's guides, because they all act weird in order to get tips and make costumers feel guilty about spending money... The hotel restaurant serves good food, but is not worth the price you're paying for it. On the other hand, the "Ritz Bar" is amazing!!! They have a great selection of club sandwiches and they don't overprice everything! The cheesecake is delicious!
The spa and the fitness centre are both very beautiful and the pool, although it's small, is nice and relaxing.
I would recommend the FS Lisbon for both business and leisure travelers, who look after their money and want to get the most out of it!

We stayed at this hotel in mid November and the ventilation system was absolutely terrible. The temperature in the room was over 80 degrees F all day and all night. It was so hot it made you sick. When we complained, the staff first acted like they could do something about it, and later told us it was just their system so not possible (why did they lie the first night?). It was so hot that it was impossible to sleep. Also, they were unable to provide any of the housekeeping items I requested (that were listed in their book of available items), and everything was very overpriced from 22 euro for a day of internet to the 27 euro breakfast. Will never stay here again.

We just spent a couple of nights here. The service did not disappoint. It was 100% up to the usual Four seasons standard.
The concierge team are just great. The room we had was described as a suite but really it's a very very large room with a sofa and arm chair. The bathroom was big enough for another bed!
We also had a terrace that had a table and chairs that you could sit out on.
The hotel itself is looking dated now in a 1970's kind of way.It really does need a revamp.
It has a lovely indoor pool and spa area in the basement.

I wouldn't agree with the location being a problem.
You can walk down to the night life in the evening in about 20 mins and taxi's are very cheap for your return. If you are there on a saturday night, thats the best night for activity,it's much quieter on other nights (Barro alto).
We hired a car aswell which was delivered to the hotel (they have a hertz relationship) and we just had to hand the keys into the concierge the next day.
A drive down to Cascais took just 30 minutes and is a lovely place to visit.

All in all, this place gets a thumbs up from me,though as I said,I wouldn't be surprised if some of it is closed soon to start a modernisation/redecoration.

  • Liked — The service and attention
  • Disliked — Nothing much really other than the fact that it does need a revamp.

Having stayed at the Four Seasons in Philadelphia I wanted to treat my husband and daughter to the Four Seasons experience. This hotel didn't disappoint and in fact the service outshone that of the American hotel; the staff were fantastic, nothing too much trouble and everything delivered with a smile. I felt ill one evening and was unable to eat my evening meal; the wonderful maitre d' insisted on sending a complimentary pot of camomile tea to my room to soothe my stomach.

We had a room with a terrace overlooking the park and the view was fantastic. The only criticism I have is that the hotel doesn't have an outdoor pool or anywhere to relax in the sun. I tried the Spa once but unfortunately was intimidated by two very rowdy teenage boys who were dive bombing into the pool. The staff said they would speak to them but I felt that someone should have been on duty around the pool and made it clear that this was a quiet Spa area.

It was very difficult to leave this oasis of luxury and return to normality.

The hotel is very grand and nicely done but the architecture of the building is nothing too exciting. I chose this hotel because I thought it would be the perfect location with easy access to the nightlife but it was far from it. Of course you take a cab no matter where you are staying but this hotel was particulary far compared to the one our friends stayed at. They stayed at Sofitel. I also thought the rooms would have great views of the city but ours did not. I believe this is a good hotel for business travelers, and for large family events but not for young couples looking to get a feel of the city. I would suggest where our friends stayed or other nearby hotels.

Super posh hotel, beautiful innards, very nice staff. Beautiful spa on ground floor and gym on top floor with great view.

--Awkward check-in. Front desk clerk kept me waiting 1.5 hours when he promised he would come to find me in hotel restaurant within 30 minutes when my room was ready. Not a busy period. Turned out that, swiping my card once and not getting instant confirmation of charges, the hotel clerk swiped again and my company froze both charges b/c they thought it was fraudulent
activity. He didn't handle the situation smoothly, said it was a problem with my card rather than something more elegant, like, "We are having trouble getting confirmation with your card." I spent about 10 stressful minutes on the phone w/American customer service straightening out the situation...the computers at Four Seasons apparently didn't recognize the confirmation my credit card company had sent. At $400+ a night, this is

--Rushed breakfast service. Restaurant only half full, mid-service, and towards the end of my meal, waiters on several days put down checks on table while I was clearly not close to finishing. Extremely rude, especially in such a pricey and supposedly classy joint! Otherwise, though, they really went to a lot of trouble to make it a nice experience.

-A few minor details
..an inexpensive piece of electronic equipment went missing somewhere in the hotel, but could've been taken/discarded by anybody, including a hotel guest
..free wireless available in lobby; this is not disclosed to guests
..if you contact the Four Seasons central command in the States to request early check-in, they will write you back in words to suggest that early check-in is impossible in any situation
..if you don't request an airport transfer in your original reservation, and email as a followup to request one, you must wait for an email from central command and reply to this email to confirm your reservation. If you're going at the last minute, you should call the hotel directly to request. The car reservation business could be streamlined to avoid inconvenience.
