“Central and close to Airport value for money hotel”
Reviewed 23 April 2013

The hotel is somewhat old but it is quiet and clean. (A somewhat negative is that rooms have integrated carpet which I personally dislike despite the fact that they looked clean).
People at the reception are polite and helpful.
The hotel is really close to metro station Marques de Pombal (5 mins max walking) and at the same close to the exit of the city towards the airport.

The only negative thing is that they tried to charge us a bottle of water on our check out but I guest this was an administrative mistake.

Excellent care to the guest.
As I have been several times in Lisbon and in so many in hotels I was a litle anxious because I was there to participate in the Lisbon Half -Marathon which took place at 10:30 as a consequence I was thinking that it would be complicated to took a bath afterwards but in the moment that I told that on the concierge the staff promptly told me to stay until 14:00 without any extra charge.
So after the race I went back to the hotel relaxed a bit and then leaved the hotel at more or less at 14:30 . Hotel staff always with a very polite atitude.
They have two customers!

It was my second stay at this hotel. Although it is an old partially renewed hotel, its location, staff friendliness which gives a "brazilian" comfort and overall services, as its breakfast, offers a good stay in the wonderful Lisbon. I should consider staying at Vip Diplomatico even compared to the other Vip hotels in the city.

We had the misfortune to spend 2 nights here after our chosen hotel (Clarion Suites) had a power failure.

The hotel is NOT a 4 star. It may have been 40 years ago but it is now definitely a 3 star. The decor does not appear to have been touched since the 1970s and many of the stains in the room probably date from that period. The staff were decidely unfriendly, with the aged breakfast waiter a real stand out.

The only upsides were the power shower and the comofrtable bed.

Unless you get this hotel at a snip, my advice is to stay away.

I stayed here for about 6 days during August. As a first caveat, the building is old, and so the rooms and the interior also look a bit old. If you're looking for a very fancy hotel with well-decorated, luxurious interiors, I wouldn't exactly suggest this hotel.

However, if you are looking for value, I would absolute recommend the VIP. Though they are a bit older, the rooms are cozy and well kept. The rooms have air conditioning, coffee, tea and even a small balcony. The staff is very friendly and the cleaning services do a nice job as well. On a side note, the rooms are fairly larger than average, which is good if you need some extra space for your stuff. Location-wise, this hotel is very close to the best sights. The metro, which take you anywhere is about 5 min away, and if you even wanted to walk, it's about a 15-20min walk to the downtown core.

Overall, though it may not be a super luxurious hotel, if you're looking for quality for a good price, I would highly suggest the VIP. It's comfortable, close and best of all, cheap!

Nice Hotel close to the main Avenida da liberdade, clean rooms, quiet. Room had TV, air conditioning and kettle ...my only dissapointment was that the tea did not offer normal tea only flavoured ( I am not a coffee drinker) but that is only a little critism. Slept like a baby and the staff were friendly and polite... make sure you have a credit card with you (or visa) as they need it just incase you use any services.... also obviously your passport or identity card.

The best thing about vip diplomatic is the price quality relation (52€ double room) the rooms are large and quiet with comfy beds and balcony! The location is the best in lisbon 2 min walk to the metro right in lisbon city center you can walk to the main attractions! The car park is free. The staff was very nice and helpfull. I think it s a good choice, the hotel is not super fancy but has everything you need for a nice weekend trip to lisbon.
