“Simply put, this is the place to stay in Lisbon.”
Reviewed 12 August 2009

Certainly, this is the best place to stay in Lisbon. The hotel is beautiful: lobby, bar, restaurant, and rooms are very modern, with great style and are very comfortable. We went to Lisbon as part of our honey moon and the hotel treated us in an incredible way: they upgraded our booking to the Preferential Starwood floor; they surprised us with some bubbly and were always very helpful answering our many questions and making bookings for the different amenities around the city. The Spirito Spa is great and although it is true that they extra charge 12 pounds per person, that’s not very expensive for an all-day free access to a sauna, pool, steam room and an amazing Jacuzzi. We went for a couple of hours in the morning, then we came back in the evening after a tiring sightseeing day.

The views from this hotel are unbeatable. If you don’t get a room facing the city, climb up to the top-floor restaurant and you will have a beautiful panorama of the amazing Lisbon. In terms of distance to the city centre, you can walk in 20 minutes to Rossio Train Station (to catch a train to the enigmatic Sintra), 25 minutes to Praca de Comercio, 20 minutes to Barrio Alto. You also have a metro station 50 mts away and a bus stop 70 mts away. By the way, in this stop you can catch the bus that takes you from/to the Airport. If you want a supermarket, there is a Pingo Doce 5 minutes away and there are 2 shopping centres right in front of the hotel (we use a lot the food court of one of those for our breakfasts and snacks).

We find a very good deal in the Starwood website for this hotel but it is also worth to check Expedia.

We had booked through Expedia for a club room for me, my wife and our teenage son. When we arrived we were told we there was no extra bed and the receptionist went on to explain that often children slept with their parents in the large bed; I found this suggestion very strange as our son was standing beside us and is nearly 6 feet tall!

I asked for an extra bed- the cost was 60 euros/ night. The reason for the lack of bed was that there had been a mix up with the hotel and Expedia. We went out for something to eat and rang Expedia who said they would try to sort it out. When we arrived back we were told the bed was in the room, we went up to the room there was no bed. I rang reception they said it was on its way- nothing happened, my wife then went to reception and it came up. When we checked out we were charged for the bed and we are now trying to recover it from Expedia (240 euros).

My wife went for a swim with my son and was surprised that they were charged to use the pool (25 euros per person per day). Hotels of this standard shouldn't be charging to use facilities like this.

The club room/ lounge was ok but I have been in better. The refrigerator was very small and hence not well stocked; I never saw more than 6 bottles of beer in at any one time.
Although if it was empty and you rang reception they would send some one to replenish the stocks.

The staff at the hotel were always polite.

Lisbon is a very nice city and is to be recommended, as for the Sheraton I am unlikely to return.

A total rip off - our arrival taxi ripped us off by about 50 euros.
The Hotel is poorly located and well overpriced.

Examples?

23 euros for breakfast
12 euros PER DAY to use an ice cold pool
18 euros PER DAY for internet use
10 Euros for a simple drink in the bar.

I could go on.

The staff were generally rude, or disinterested and there is NOTHING of substance good about this dump.

The corridors were like the inside of a wardrobe and the main lobby resembled a 1970's poor man's brothel.

This is the WORST Sheraton in the world and it has put me off the brand.

I did not bother complaining because everything about Lisbon and this hotel was pointless.

The City is filthy with beggars and buskers haranging you on every corner and restaurants were generally rubbish.

Any good points, I hear you all ask?

Yes, the Eagles concert on 22nd July but that had diddly squat to do with either this hotel or this decrepit city.

NEVER AGAIN!!!

We spend another few nights here after few years and we were once again very glad about this hotel. It is still well maintained with a design and quality which again impressed us. We paid for a club level room which left us little dissapointed as the offer in the lounge was very very limited (comparing to Interconti or hyatt club levels which we can compare to), also luxury toilettries mentioned in the reservation confirmation (Hermes) were not provided and instead some basic and not appealing bliss products in the bathroom placed. I am mentioning it as these were the reasons to pay the extra for club here. Otherwise nothing to complain about. Maybe just question why they removed one of only two chandeliers in the main restaurant which results in very dark and obscure atmosphere in this place which is also without windows.

We stayed here for 3 nights in late June 2009 (my wife and I). A very good hotel. Beautiful rooms, friendly and helpful staff. Located abit out of the centre, but we walked it no problem + taxis are VERY inexpensive in Lisbon. Recommend staying here if you can get a good rate.

I travelled to Lisbon with my daughter and had a wonderful time in Lisbon because of the excellent service provided by the concierge and the reception staff at this hotel Sheraton Lisboa.

We decided to stay at this property as we are Gold Starwood members, though our status was not acknowledged when checking in. I had chosen a club room due to previously positive experiences with club lounges.

The check-in process was smooth, but we were very surprised when reaching our room on the 20th floor (lowest floor of the club floors). The hallway and hotel room look like a mixture of a spaceship and an upscale Japanese love hotel (the one you check into to partake in adult activities for 3 hours). Otherwise the hotel was quite clean, though the bed is a little short for someone of my height (about 194 cm tall).

We went to the club room the same evening (it is located on the 24th floor). We were surprised to find it completely unstaffed, so anyone is free to access it. On checking in, we had been told that internet is free to use in the lounge, and had thus requested usernames and passwords for our laptops when checking in. Two days later, we discovered that the internet only is free if you use one of two computers located in the lounge. Without being aware of it, we had thus been charged for internet access when asking for wifi access codes.

Finally, the breakfast in the club lounge is very poor compared to the regular breakfast served in the restaurant by the reception. The former is not made to order, and with the exception of the view there is no reason to eat breakfast in the lounge.

In conclusion, unless you are in Lisbon on business, I think there is no reason to stay away from the historical district. There should be plenty of charming and historical hotels to choose from, at least then you will be ensured that your hotel will have some character.
