Ranked #137 of 255 Hotels in Lisbon

The good: large bedrooms for European standards, ok breakfast, near the bullfight ring that doubles as a shopping mall and restaurant center.
The bad: Internet: 1) 20 Euros per day. If they do this in 2011, they might as well charge additionally for electricity and running water. I bought online 1 week of access for 50 Euros (still ridiculous). 2) I reserved a tour at the front desk and the receptionist refused to give me a receipt. Basically I paid 120 Euros and he said the travel agency will know already that we had paid. This was true in the end, but common practice is giving a receipt after you take someone’s payment. 3) Another thing that struck me is that absolutely no toiletries are offered in the room; but you have to ask the receptionist if you need anything.
If I go back to Lisbon I will chose a hotel with smaller rooms, but free internet and closer to the center.

This time we took advantage of living in Iberian Peninsula by using the night train to visit Lisbon, Portugal - for the extended "St.John" weekend. Luckily, I had caught a super offer at this hotel of a room big enough for our Family.

We arrived early in the morning from the night train, and were very pleased to get the room right away! (Lucky I guess) Pulling our large bag uphill from Alameda metro station just had it's compensation, the rooftop pool was at our disposal right away to freshen up and for the kids to make some noise.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. I asked quite many questions, got all the answers, had luggage kept for the leaving day and gained free access to flush in the rooftop pool before running to the returning train.

We had a room with double queen size beds, barely big enough for our three kids. The room and batroom were tidy and spacious, minibar small and expensive, street view regular, air conditioning perfect, TV flat. Super value for us, but we had it all pre-paid.

Location of Holiday Inn Lisboa is somewhat remote, but accessible. It is practically in the middle of three metro stations: Alameda, Saldanha and Campo Pequenho. Green line takes you easily to downtown from Alameda, but the hotel is 50 m vertical uphill from it. Saldanha is at the same level, but you're better to ride first to Sao Sebastiao and take blue line to downtown then. From the northeastern corner or Campo Peqenho you can catch a bus to Oriente or Airport, if you'd like to skip the tube for once. We got economical metro and tram rides with the 24 h ticket of carris.pt , no need for taxi!

The neighborhood is peaceful, the local tech institute across the crossing. Maybe school zone? We hit luckily two nice restaurants on Avenida Elias Garcia: Caucho Castelaõ is an argentinan churrasqueria - an all you can eat meat feast for less than 20 €! Almost next to it there is a chic (but not cheap) marisqueria "Semdúvida", with a lobster aquarium - dorada grelhada was excellent, so was aspargus risotto (despite the huge portion).

Room Tip: Family room is a viable option for 2+2, even 2+3

Best thing about the hotel - it seemed very clean, no complaints there at all. Bed linen, bathroom, towels, carpet were all very clean. Small rooftop pool with sun loungers on the rooftop looked lovely too.

Bad things -
1) Noise - the road was very noisy with cars beeping their horns until around midnight. Though they don't start again until about 8am which isn't so bad. When you get other guests partying in their rooms the walls seem very thin - I was woken up again and again until 4.15am on our the last night there (a Saturday). The first two nights I didn't hear others in the hotel though.
2) Bathroom smelt sewagey and was very small and badly laid out so you had to squeeze past the bidet and bath to the toilet. But perhaps we got a 'bad' room because of booking (weeks in advance) with lastminute.com. Then the last morning when our upstairs neighbour had a shower at 6.30am the water came pouring in through our bathroom ceiling flooding the bathroom and waking us up. We told the staff at checkout but they weren't bothered as we'd already paid upfront.
3) See other reviews about location. It's in a rather quiet business-y area - apart from traffic noise!, although there are a few restaurants down side streets. It takes up to 40 minutes to walk into the historical centre, so if you're ok with that, take taxis, get to grips with the local buses, or are ok to walk 10 mins or so to the tour buses main stop it might be ok for you. It is convenient for the number 1 airport shuttle bus though.

When I return to Lisbon (I loved the place, not the hotel), I will definitely stay somewhere else! It's rather put me off the Holiday Inn brand too.

Room Tip: A room away from the front should be quieter.

Until now we have always stayed in Holiday Inn hotels when travelling through Europe. Unfortunately all of the reception staff were at best unhelpful and sometimes just rude. This is something we have not witnessed at any other Holiday Inn and spoilt an otherwise nice stay at the hotel. Room was clean, room cleaning etc very good but the hotel's insistance that they would not replenish any tea, coffee or milk after the initial day didn't help the general atmosphere. This experience has led us to look elswhere in the future.

It is really so nice and comfartable hotel. It takes only 3 minutes walking to bus station between linden trees and 10 minutes to city center by bus. I highly recommend to this hotel espesicially to families with children...

Only stayed at this hotel for one night. It is a nice hotel with comfortable, air conditioned rooms. It's about a 5 minute walk to the metro station, but is a bit far from the city centre to walk. Walking took about 45 minutes to an hour and was a 5-6 euro taxi ride.

Overall would recommend this hotel for the price, depending on how close you want to be to the city centre.

We stayed at the hotel for 5 days in September. The weather was amazing every day.
It is everything that one can expect from a Holiday Inn. Simple, comfortable, clean, polite staff.
Rooms are specious, clean, seemed to be newly renovated. There is a roof terrace with a tiny swimming pool and a few sun beds. Good view of the city from the top.
On the negative side we were told that the hotel is located very close to the city centre. It was our first trip to Lisbon, so was difficult to judge on the location and distance. It is not located in the centre at all. I cannot say that it is a bad location, but it would take us about 30-40 min travel time down to the centre. The hotel is located in a modern "business" part of the city on a quiet street. There are shops and cafes all around, metro stations are about 15-20 mins walking distance as well as bus stops.
Since the taxis are very cheap in Lisbon it was never a problem to get back to the hotel at night. It would be a 10-15 min drive from the city centre.
As the main idea of our trip was to see and experience more of Lisbon, the old historical Lisbon, we were disappointed mainly by the location of the hotel. It is much more suited for business travelers.
