“An amazing experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 July 2012

I was in Palacio Ramalhete with my sisters, during a short break in Lisboa in June, and the experience could not be more positive and amazing. The hotel, more a Palacio than and a big house, has all that we needed, a fantastic breakfast, with several kind of breads and cereals, fresh fruit and salmon. The rooms (we were in a Superior and Standard rooms) in the upper floor were very nice and quiet, with view to the backyard, where is the swimming pool. To have a drink in the swimming pool area, with a view to the river, was a wonderful experience. The staff in the hotel has a lot of information and tips about the best laces in Lisboa to vist and to eat, and they are more than friendly. Definitely, a place to mark and to come back in the future if we have the chance to visit Lisboa again. Highly recommended.

Because the hotel is small you feel that you get personal service from staff and Francesca takes time to guide guests on how to get to places, where to eat etc.
It is an old hotel and can sometimes appear dark, particularly near the bar where tables are laid out for breakfast. But the courtyard and swimming pool are magical particularly at night when candles are lit. Our room was large and uncluttered which made it easy to wind down.
The only downsides... we were in a top floor room and the two flights of stairs are a nuisance. Although we did have help in carrying suitcases. Also when we arrived the windows were open and we tended to do that a lot of the time rather than use the airconditioning, this was a mistake as a mosquito in our room caused problems ( we had been warned that there are mosquitos in Lisbon). Also, having to ring for attention to get back into the hotel, when waiting on the pavement outside can be a nuisance.

Room Tip: I think all the rooms are so varied that it is worth phoning up to discuss your requirements.

Dear Guest:

Thank you for your time to write a review about our palace. Once I have read your review it is true that the house does not have a lift, but that is part of the charming of an old palace from XVIII Century, but as you have said our staff are always ready to help you with the luggage to your room.
One of the best place to take pictures in the hotel is the swimming pool, during evening and night, where you can feel the quiet atmosphere with the candles lit.
Francisca has read your comments, and she is happy to know that you appreciate her help.
We hope to host again in the future, and we are grateful for your visit.

Kind regards

The hotel is a beautifully restored small palace with only twelve bedrooms which are all tastefully decorated. We were lucky enough to have a bedroom overlooking the lovely courtyard and pool where you can relax after a busy day's sightseeing enjoying the busy city of Lisbon. The decor of the hotel is in keeping with it's history and there is a lovely dining room/bar area and three lounges areas all with very tasteful furnishings & decor. All of the staff were great offering restaurant recommendations, ordering taxis, advice on places to visit, etc, they couldn't do enough for us. The hotel is away from the main hotel area of the city opposite the museum of ancient art and is handy for buses into the town centre. Taxis are also quite cheap and plentiful. If you like a hotel which stands out from the ordinary then Palacio Ramalhete is a hidden gem in a very lively city.

Room Tip: Try and pick a room at the rear of the hotel, quite a busy street at the front. Room 8 overlooked t...

Thank you for your time in writing your review about Palacio Ramalhete and our staff. We are there to serve you and offer you the best options in town, so your comments about our way of work is the most important for us.
Thank you also for your special tips to our other visitors, and yes, maybe the rooms that are overlooking to the swimming pool and the backyard are more relaxing, but our suites in the first floor are also very confortables and charmy.

We look forward to see you again in Palacio Ramalhete.

If you want to stay in Lisbon and feel part of the city and at one with its residents come to the Palacio Ramalhete ! From the moment you enter the dark green double doors and glide up the lovely marble and stone staircase you just feel that time has stood still and it is easy to imagine that you are a house guest and not a paying one! We were greeted by the lovely Daniela, brilliant english and totally there to help in a very charming way.The rooms are very spacious and the courtyard with the lovely little pool(always nice and warm) is so sweet and you have an interesting view of the river from the top terrace, Breakfast is also very sweet with lots of lovely fresh fruit and smoked salmon , lots of coffees and teas and very interesting fresh juices,I loved the kiwi/mango one! Also of course the delicous custard tarts to finish if you have any room after the eggs and tomatoes and croissants!
The location is at first quite daunting as its quite a distance form the centre but that turns out to be a bonus in the end and the taxis which hover outside the door are so cheap into the very middle of Lisbon ,it makes it so easy to get about (about 3 or4 euros) Also the restuarants around the hotel are lovely, we adored Picanha, right next door, fabulous meat and salads and Le Chat was a smashing little cocktail bar across the road by the entrance to the Museum Antiga , We often sat there looking out at the river with cocktails in hand nibbling lovely little Tapas dishes. For that extra special night Francesca kindly booked us in to O Travessa whcih was a beautiful convent turned into a Michelin restuarant a few blocks from the hotel.
All in all we loved our stay and would just point out a few niggles which the hotel is aware of and are soon to be changed we believe. Room 4 has a large mirror in the wall placed where a door once was and consequently you can hear all the noise from anyone staying in room 3 , not much fun but luckily for us it was empty after the first night. Room 8 needs a mirror in the room and both needed up to date bathrooms as the shower above the bath type is really not good enough for this sort of quality hotel. However these small points woudl not deter us form staying again as the kindness and feeling of being with friends all the time far outweighed these niggles and it is somehting that I think is very rare to find in a hotel these days, Well done all the staff at the Palacio Ramalhete , a great team.

Room Tip: If you wnat room without any outside noise ask for one facing the pool but no 1 is a very pretty roo...

Dear guest:

Thank you very ugh for your review and comments about our Palacete, and mainly for the recognition about the work of Daniela and Francisca. For us it is very important that our guests consider that our staff are a great part of their happiness in our hotel.
Also, your recommendations about the different rooms and our breakfast, are the best marketing about our services.
Thank you also for your niggles, and we will do our best to avoid them in the future for other guests.
We hope to host you again in the future.

Kind regards

could not be better. extremely nice old palace, superbly refurbished! the design is a very harmonic equilibrium between antique and modern. The owners have managed to keep the antique character - each room has its own decoration - while at the same time introducing a timeless minimalistic design. Very well done!
The swimming-pool is a bit small, though sufficient and fits nicely into the interior of the palace. The rooms are very very spacious, superbly isolated windows so you don't hear anything from the street (I was first worried there could be some noise). TV seems to have everything you need, though I didn't use it (didn't have to).
Service is extremely friendly and helpful - with some Portuguese style (relaxed). You have to try the vinho verde - nicely chilled, taken in the patio is exactly what makes those moments unforgettable.
All in all hard to beat!

Room Tip: All rooms a quiet. The 2nd floor may have inclined walls.

Dear Guest:

Thank you for your review about your stay in our hotel. We are agree with you about the relaxing time when you are tasting a Vinho Verde in our backyard, with the candles and the quiet atmosphere in the swimming pool. That is a good point to tell to our next guests.

We wish you a pleasant trip back home and we hope to host you again in the future.

The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The rooms and ambience reflect a serene atmosphere, and the swimming pool was a bonus. The English breakfast was bountiful and the location was opposite the national museum and good tapas restaurants nearby.

This is a very nice boutique hotel, charming, small, well decorated and with spacious rooms. Breakfast is simple yet the quality is superb. If you like boutique hotels, you will enjoy the Palacio Ramalhete. However, note that depending what room you stay in, there are lots of stairs and no elevator. It is not easy to lug your suitcase up. If you have a car, parking is an issue, all public parking lots are a few blocks away. TV was wimpy - I agree, I don´t take vacation to watch tv, but after a long days touring it is good to turn the tube on and see what is happening in the world - they had 5 channels at most. Wireless worked well. The hotel is only about 300 meters from the train station that can take you to Cascais and connect to Sintra.
