Impossible to find any fault with this hotel. Very comfortable, clean and modern rooms. Quiet yet very close to city centre. If you find the 10 metres to the metro too indulgent, try the 10 minutes walk to the centre down a beautiful avenue.
Restaurant served delicious food although we ate out mainly in one of the splendid restaurants in Lisbon. Lovely bar and hotel full of ever helpful staff who proactvely ensured a great stay

Could not fault the hotel. The rooms were a decent size, clean and quiet, and the beds were extremely comfortable. As a base from which to see Lisbon it was perfect. It is a maximum of 5 minutes walk from the Metro (if you walk slowly). Breakfast offered a decent selection including fruit, cereals, different breads and rolls, and a hot option too. Plenty of teas and coffee available. We never had an issue finding a table. The staff were extremely helpful, and even called our cab to return when we were on the way to the airport as one of our party had left her sunglasses behind. It was good value for money, and we would certainly return there.

The Marques is a typical business hotel which is also used by individual travellers. The rooms are very comfortable and in excellent condition. The hotel is situated ideally not to close to the centre to have quick access to the airport (20 min) but close enough to walk. The metro station entry is a brutal 10 m away from the hotel. Though the Av. Liberdade is a wide avenue with dense traffic it does not feel in your room. The room is equipped with two double glass windows. Though we saw no other children they can stay for free (up to 12 year old). The personnel have been very friendly. We had our 9 year old with us and came during the night. An extra bed was organized in few minutes. The breakfast buffet is excellent and a restaurant is available. However, even close to this hotel you can find plenty of very good Portuguese restaurants within walking distance.

Room Tip: We had a room on the 8th floor (817) facing the Av. Liberdade. From here you could even see the rive...

This lovely hotel provides a combination of streamlined, attentive professional care with friendly ambience.

During my stay of four nights, I found nothing to complain about and a lot to like.

The reception desk is staffed 24 hours a day. After recently staying at a hotel in Rome that lacked that service, I will no longer take it for granted!

The restaurant at the hotel has perfectly decent food and a nice bar, too. Afflicted with jet lag, I had dinner there the first night, but Lisbon is full of wonderful restaurants, so you’re going to want to go elsewhere for memorable meals. If you need to eat here, though, you'll probably be pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food.

The Marques de Pombal is well located, within walking distance of the historic heart of the city.

I’m a painter and I always ask for a room (standard, not deluxe) with lots of natural light and a view, if possible, in the hotels I stay in. The room I got had light and a view, overlooking the treetops of elegant Avenida Liberdade. It was of a decent size with a very spacious (by European standards) bathroom. The downside of many rooms with an urban view in big city hotels is that you get the noise of the city thrown in, too. Most nights there was no problem, but on Saturday (of course) Lisbon was happening and I heard it! There ARE quieter rooms in the hotel, so ask for one if you are staying on the weekend and noise is a big concern of yours.

The Marques de Pombal is not a boutique hotel with lots of quirky charm, but it is a modern, affordable, pretty, immaculately kept, well-staffed hotel that will appeal to business travelers and tourists alike. I’m a female solo traveler and I stayed there for four nights, without a care in the world.

We stayed in this hotel for 3 days during New Year with small kid of 1.5 years, quite happy with this hotel.
Pluses:
- very convenient location (close to metro, close to the center and bus touristic)
- nice breakfast (although quite small), baby chair is available
- on request they provide baby cot free of charge
- there is large grocery shop in the near
- clean and convenient room

Minuses:
- no tea, no coffee in the room (rather inconvenient if you are with baby)
- Wi-Fi is free but timed out quickly
- rather noisy - you can very well hear guests from other rooms
- no pleasant details available in other 4* hotels such as slippers, gown, sewing kit, shawing kit, ect.
- no activities for kids available

Room Tip: Don't try to book a room through the internet if you travel with kid, you'll have to call or...

We stayed at the Marques Pombal in November 2011. I would classify it as a business-traveller centric hotel. The staff was pleasant and helpful, especially at the reception.

Our rooms were modern, clean, and of average size, with comfortable beds, although the bathrooms were on the small side. The windows could be opened, which is rare and a treat! Despite its location on a busy street, it is still fairly quiet. The hotel offered free Wi-Fi, although it timed out quickly, which was a tad annoying. The breakfast room is in the basement and is quite small. The food is basic and below average (for this class of hotel and compared to other breakfasts we’ve had across the country).

The hotel has a nice bar but service can be spotty (you often have to go up to the bar and order your drinks, even when it’s not busy and there are plenty of waiters).

The hotel is about a 15-minute walk to Baixa (lower town) and there is a metro/subway stop right in front of the hotel (24-hour passes are great value and can be used on buses and trams also).

Overall, this hotel offered good value for money.

There's a subway entrance right outside the hotel (Marques De Pombal) and its in a really nice neighborhood which my husband and I felt safe to walk around in, even at night. Up the street is a nice restraurant (REST 33) and a mini mart with cheap water (12 cents/bottle) up Rua Alexandre Herculano. The beds were comfortable and room was clean and well decorated. Breakfast is served down in the basement and has enough variety to suit several tastes. It includes eggs and hot meats. The bedroom also has double windows which keep out the sounds of the city very well. Only complaint is the AC removed all humidity in the room and my husband and I both were extremely uncomfortable to the point we turned off the AC and opened the window instead. We live in Colorado USA where there is extremely low humidity so this was a bit surprising. Luckily the air outside was nice and cold so it worked out well.

Room Tip: Higher floors have less traffic noise and the potential to have cigarette smoke wafting up.
