“A very good place to stay in Lisbon”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 March 2014

My wife and I spent three-nights at the Marques de Pombal hotel. The hotel is well situated with a metro stop ‘on the doorstep’ and it is a very pleasant 10-15 minute walk down the Avenida da Liberdade to the central Baixa district. The reception staff were polite and helpful. Our room was good-sized, comfortable and nicely decorated. It overlooked a street but the glazing meant that there was no road noise whatsoever. Neither was there any noise from inside the hotel. Breakfast was fine. My only small niggle is that I was unable to connect my smartphone to the free wi-fi for much of the time we were there. Overall, an extremely pleasant place to stay and very good value for the price paid. We would definitely stay at this hotel again should we return to Lisbon.

We stayed 3 nights at this lovely hotel, located perfectly for touring. Though you can walk down to the waterfront neighborhoods (15 minute downhill walk to Rossio Station, another 10 minutes to the harbor), it is super convenient to take the metro with a stop just steps from the hotel (Marques de Pombal stop), especially for the uphill return. We bought the Viva Viagem daily metro cards. Metro stations were great, even had staff available to help if our cards didn't work (which did happen a couple times). We had an upper level room that faced the pretty Avenida ... very quiet (double-paned windows and black-out curtains), very comfortable room, very clean, fantastic bed and wonderful pillows. The AC was also welcome even in early October. Good WiFi reception in our room. Great shower, large bathroom with huge, soft towels. Breakfast downstairs was varied and plentiful with excellent coffee from the Nespresso machine. Hotel restaurant was also great - good service, delicious food, not crowded. It was nice to relax in a hotel away from the busy harbor areas. We'd definitely recommend this hotel!

From the moment we stepped through the doors to the moment we left , we were made to feel welcome like family. The staff were so pleasing...can I take your bag , can I call you the lift , may I show you around etc etc So helpful at all times. The rooms were very clean , bedding white and soft , towels abundant and fluffy. Room was very nice , very very clean with minibar and plenty of cupboard space and extras in the bathroom. Everything you want with perfect mattress and triple glazing so there was no noise at all, the hotel seemed busy and we didn't hear a peek from anyone else all night. Breakfast was wonderful, fruit , cereal , bacon scrambled eggs , mushrooms, juices, yoghurt and cakes along with much more , great Nespresso machine and lovely choice. Couldn't fault it and extremely pleased with the price and location , right opposite the Metro. Can't wait to go again!

Stayed for 5 nights at this hotel - as always checked it out on Tripadvisor beforehand and was not disappointed. Centrally located minutes walk from Metro which meant getting about was painless, even to and from the airport. Rooms were everything you wanted with fantastic beds and exceptional pillows. Toiletries were great quality. Only disappointment was no tea/coffee facilities in the room. Breakfast was typical of a city centre hotel with lots of pastries to choose from, fresh fruit and hot buffet style so you didn't go hungry. Coffee was great. The restaurant was so good we ate there twice, exceptional standard of food with attentive friendly staff and complimentary starters both times.
Even on checking out we were amazed that the receptionist offered to check us onto our flight and print our boarding passes. What more could you ask for....ohh yes, tea/coffee in the room!!

Room Tip: 508 was great for us, quiet peaceful relaxing and sun in the morning

We booked the Marques de Pombal as a compromise between location, price, design and Trip Advisor reviews. It was easy to locate via the Airport bus and is next to a Metro Stop; it's also a pleasant walk into town along the Avenida (although I'd recommend taking public transport if you're doing it a lot). We were disappointed by the hotel however; its design features (as advertised) did not materialise and our room was very plain and conventional - a typical business hotel room, with little character and the opposite of my requirements. There was no coffee making facility - I'm sure I read that there was, and the mini-bar was ludicrously expensive, if it matters. The hotel had limited public space; the entrance was a stairwell, with no wow factor, or indeed anything at all to advertise its 4**** status; the bar was small and with sport TV and the breakfast room too small to cope with the number of people.
Worst of all was the very poor breakfast (a key factor in my choice); a limited range of hot dishes (always cold) and almost nothing for non meat-eaters. The bread selection was laughably poor, bearing in mind the astonishing selection available in the local supermarkets; terrible coffee; very basic cereal; basic cheese, basic yoghurt (do they really have to serve Nestle?) and basic jam.
We found the room quiet and clean and the bed comfy and the bathroom, although small was adequate.
What a shame it did not live up to expectations. I would never give it a 4****.

The cleanliness of the suite/consistent housekeeping during my 6days stay. Staff made sure my vacation stay at the property was comfortable and exceptional. They even sent a chilled champagne and cakes for my birthday and another compliments during the valentines day! Cant get any better than that! Room is spacious and overlooks Avenida De Liberdade. Breakfast was elaborate with good choices. The hotel itself is just a few steps from the metro. I also did try lunch at the Blu restaurant and its really fine dining. The food (penne with bacalau) was just delicious and service was that of a five star with reasonable price.

Room Tip: Superior room overlooking the city. Double glazed windows when closed kept noise out during the nigh...

My friend and myself recently stayed in this Hotel for 5 nights, As a treat we decided to stay in this 4 star Hotel and were very disappointed. The staff at reception were very nice and helpful. Our room was very noisy and basic for a 4 star. There was no coffee/tea in our room, you could not hear the tv with the noise from outside and the sound on the tv was controlled. No ironing facilities. The breakfeast was the worse we ever experienced, no brown break, coffee undrinkable, scramble eggs freezing cold, skinny bacon cremated. We have stayed in better 3 star Hotels. It was further out from the Centre then we were told.

Room Tip: Try and get a room at the back of the Hotel.
