This hotel is very good located. The rooms are ok but be sure to ask for a non smoking room if you want it.
It has a nice bar.

We have just returned from a holiday in Portugal, and we couldn't miss Lisbon, of course
We stayed at Marques de Pombal hotel in Lisbon, and it was really satisfactory.
The location is wonderful: just 2 metro stops from downtown (Restauradores stop), and 10 min walk to the main dining and shopping area.
The metro stop is 10 m from the hotel (just across the street) and also the open-bus first stop is right in the roundabout at Marques de Pombal square (500m from the hotel).
The room is quite spacious, clean, only problem is with the breakfast: is not as varied as one would like. Of course you can find something decent to eat, but it is not as abundent as in other hotels.
Some short info on Lisbon: taxis are very cheap for getting out at night (2-4 euros to the main dining and shopping area), and around 15-20 eur from the airport (especially if you come at night or on week-ends - is more expensive).
Places to go to: the St. George Castle, the Belem quarter (don't miss the Tower of Belem, the Monastery and the famous custard tarts at Pasteleria de Belem!), Baixa and Bairro Alto quarters - especially for shopping, walking around and seeing nice old architecture and going out at night to restaurants, bars etc.
Don't miss a fado show (we went to Cafe Luso - a bit expensive, but worth it, the singing and dancing is wonderful).
Definitely walk aroung Lisbon with the famous 38 tram, or any other tram, to taste the experience of small streets, picturesque quarters and get the real feel of Lisbon.
Reserve one day to visit Sintra (25 min by train from the train station located at Restauradores metro stop). Visit especially the Moore castle and the other two: Royal Castle and the more excentric one which was the love nest of the queen :).
You can also go to Estoril and Cascais - 40-45 min by train. They are quite elegant, full of life and tourists, and a nice place to go to.
Also have a tour in the open bus tour, it will take to major sights to visit in Lisbon.
For shopping go to Colombo or Vasco Do Gama malls - you can easily get there by metro.
Enjoy Lisbon, it's well worth it!

Had read the reviews on this site and decided to stay for a long weekend in September 2008. My wife and I were greeted on arrival by happy and understanding staff (we speak no Portugese). Despite being early we were checked in swiftly and in our room in minutes.

The room was on the 8th floor, easily accessible, clean, spacious (by European hotel standards) and the bathroom was well proportioned. The shower was great and the room was of course air conditioned.

Breakfast was a buffet affair, continental European and long hours (7.30 to 10.30).

We didn't use the restaurant on the mezzanine floor.

I used the gym and it was clean and well maintained. I appeared to be the only guest using the facility!

I will definitely stay at this hotel when we eventually return to Lisbon. It ticked all the boxes and is a 2 to 3 minute walk to the main junction at Marques de Pombal where there is a Metro station, bus stop and the 22 Carris bus to the airport.

Stayed at the Marques de Pombal Hotel for 10 nights in July and do not have a bad thing to say. The front desk staff was friendly, helpful and spoke English. The maid service was excellent - we were given anything we requested. The beds were comfortable, the bathroom was spacious, the water pressure in the shower was phenomenal. The breakfast was typical European breakfast of pastries, rolls, fruit, and some hot dishes. It was fine for us to get the day started. The location is very good. It is close enough to the town center to walk (approx. 15 mins.) yet far enough away to be in a quieter area. If you don't like to walk, the metro stops right outside the hotel. We left the hotel after breakfast each day and usually did not return until around 11:00 p.m. This hotel served its purpose quite nicely - great price, great staff, great location!! If you're looking for a hotel with lots of amenities or a real Portugese feel, you'd probably be better staying somewhere else, but if you need someplace comfortable and efficient to rest your head at night, this is the place. Lisbon and the surrounding area is a wonderful place and I would recommend a trip to anyone interested.

I stayed at the hotel for three nights and found the hotel to be rather bland, but a good and functional choice.

The room size was ok and the cleanliness impeccable - good sized bathroom. The reception staff was helpful and friendly, Breakfast was not terribly impressive, but adequate. The breakfast room was a rather small, dark and crammed space.

The hotel lies on a wide avenue with quite a lot of traffic and some upmarket shops. However, there was no traffic noise in my room (5th floor towards a sidestreet.) A well functioning aircondition system was also a plus.

Not a hotel to get overly excited by, but definately a safe choice if you are looking for a central and clean hotel in Lisbon.

A very solid performer, there aren't any superlatives one can use for it but conversely there is nothing one can complain about either.

Its conveniently situated on Avenida Da Liberdade, about five minutes from a bus and Metro stop (the airport bus stops there), about ten minutes from Placa Restaurades one of the main squares, and the same from the Funiculare that takes one to the Bairro Alto for restaurant selections.

The hotel itself is relatively bland, the hallway walls are faced in 1980's style red wood (not redwood however) but the lighting is cheerful. The room is medium sized by American standards with a side table and two easy chairs plus work desk and didn't feel crowded. The bathroom is a good size with a full sized tub including a shower emitting hot water and good water pressure, and the shower doesn't leak onto the floor. Their is a sink, toilet and bidet, along with better than average shelf space for toiletries.

The work desk in the bedroom is a good size for working on and has two desk height electrical outlets, for laptop and other accessories such as a mobile. Broadband is vai Internet and is free, the hotel advertises Wi-Fi in all public rooms but I didn't try that.

The bed was comfortable with extra pillows provided in the closet. The room had the usual European requirement to insert the key for electrical use. The one problem this caused initially is that the rooms air conditioning resets to 20 degrees Celsius and turns off each time one leaves. If one doesn't notice or remember to turn the A/C on each time one returns it can get warm. Unusually the windows open and even though our room was facing Liberdade we weren't bother by street noise, with the window closed it was total silence from the street. The only minor issue I had was that the bed reading lights were pretty ineffective.

The breakfast is either buffet style until ten thirty or continental in the bar until 12 noon. The buffet was okay, nothing special but acceptable. We didn't try either the bar fro drinks nor the restaurant so I cannot comment.

For someone on business it might be attractive as it is convenient to get to from outside the city and it has it's own underground car park.

The staff were generally helpful in making reservations or suggestions. The degree to which they were helpful was closely correlated to their knowledge of English. In addition we noticed that there were at least two receptionists that were fluent in Italian.

Overall I'd say the hotel has little charm or panache but it is a good solid performer that delivers a clean, functional good sized room in which everything worked and was convenient for transport and access to the major tourist spots.
