“Very good view / OK quality hotel”
Reviewed 22 July 2011

Yes, the view is definitely the best in LIsbon, Next to the miradouro ALbergaria Senhora Do Monte. The hotel is located in Graca, very quite, less touristic yet very central area. Tram 28 is 7 mins of walk away from the hotel. Alfama can be reached by foot in about 10 mins. So the location is very central.

However, i wouldnt say that the interior quality as well as service of the hotel would equal a four star hotel. I have stayed in various 4-5 star hotels in Lisbon and can not compare their quality with this one. The reception/lobby area is very small, old. The receptionists are not smiling at you at all, answering your questions in a very bored attitude. The rooms are clean but quite old, especially the bathroom. The breakfast area has a stunning view of the city but again the quality of the breakfast is only OK. There are better hotels for this price in Lisbon. ANd the views you can see from the miradouros the whole day long for free..

We (35 and 45) stayed at the hotel mid-March; we bargained for a room with the view and got a large, clean room with a fantastic terrace and a superb view of down-town Lisb for 70 euros a night. The staf was friendly, natural and helpfull. I got my shirt washed and trousers shortened in no time for a modest charge. The area is great, lots of nice restaurants (check the Chapito-venue, a short taxi ride from the hotel). The hotel is a 10 min walk down to the centre. The bartender at the top floor will become your unimposing friend if you want. Excellent choice if you want a small, cosy and reasonable stay with a touch of extra (the view and the staf). Brekafast ok. We will be back. Lisboa and the area have great things to offer (If you want a unique look at the history of civilisation through artifacts , a visit to Gulbenkian museum is a must). Sintra is magical.

Room Tip: bargain for a balcony

As all reviewers already wrote, there are stunning view from the breakfast terrace and most rooms. And it was really fantastic to open the window in the morning and be greetet by the church bells nearby and the lovely view of the city and the river. The rooms are simple, the size is OK and everything was very clean. The bed is confortable and the air conditioning was perfect.
Suggestions for improvements: there is no mini-bar in the room and wirelss internet works only in the lobby. From my room on the second floor the wireless internet worked for some time, but then the signal got too bad.
The staff is very nice and likable!! They make you feel at home.
Bairro da Graca, where the hotel is located, has steep streets and is very interesting. Old houses, some nice restaurants, everything simple but authentic. You can easily reach Praca do Comercio on foot going down Bairro da Graca and enjoying the beautiful views of Alfama on your way down. I confess however that, in the end of the day, I did not want to go up on foot and took a cab. A cab costs about 5 euros from Restauradores or Praca do Comercio to the Albergaria.

Room Tip: Rooms with balcony do not have the beautiful view.

I had a conference I was attending in Barcelona, and thought it would be nice to visit Lisbon for a night. After doing research on where I wanted to stay, I came across this hotel. It was in the location I wanted, and the price was really nice. I dropped a quick note in the comments sections of the reservation that I would love a nice view of the city.
When I got to the hotel, they checked me into room 24. When I walked in the room, there was a shade across the large window. When I opened it, I could hardly believe my eyes. It was a 180 degree view of Lisbon, with the 25th of April bridge on one side, and the river in front, the Castle of St George to my near left, and several historic churches on my far left.
I have stayed in probably 2000 hotels worldwide, and by far, this was the best view I have ever had in my entire life. It was amazing, and I would have paid double my rate, just for this view. The window even opened, allowing for an even greater vista.
The hotel was nice, the staff very friendly, and the location was great, but the view is what you should book this hotel for.
All pictures were taken from my hotel room.

First impression on arrival was ‘Wow’. The view from the Hotel reception was fabulous; we couldn’t wait to see our room and were not disappointed. A good size with double doors opening up onto a small balcony with table/chairs and the most amazing view across the city, river, bridge, castle everything! Plenty of natural light, the beds were very comfortable, bathroom was a reasonable size and everything worked, very clean – couldn’t find fault.
Breakfast was served on the top floor, again with the most magnificent views both inside and on the outside terrace. Food quality good although not an awful lot of choice (but fine for our needs).
We found Reception staff polite and helpful.
The hotel is located on one of the highest points and around 20+ mins walk downhill to the centre. This was not a problem for us but could be for the less mobile. The tram and bus stop were just down the road, about five minutes walk so no problem getting anywhere, plus a Taxi ride from the centre cost under 5 Euros and was well worth taking especially when you have luggage on the first journey up (this also helps with locating the hotel as it could be very tricky).
We spent 3 nights in Lisbon (amazing city) and would highly recommend staying at the Albergaria Senhora Do Monte Hotel for superb views and a very comfortable stay in an excellent location if not the most central.

We opted for staying here because of its selection a choice of a well known travel company's guide to Portugal. They particularly recommended it because of the view, which was, in fact, pretty spectacular. But that is abut this place has to recommend it. The room, while clean, was on the small side as was the bathroom, which smelled of mildew. The location is fairly distant from things, but there is a tram stop abut 500 years away that will get you downtown. The management is not overly friendly and could not find our reservation from Bookings.com when we arrived. They will let you use their lobby computer for 4 euro an hour, fair enough, but the ink jet printer is probably from 10 years ago and the boarding passes I printed had to be redone by the airline. The room included a breakfast, the croissants for which were fresh two days ago. My advice is to give this place a skip unless you intend to spend all your time in Lisbon looking at the view,

We stayed five nights at the Senhora Do Monte and were very pleased with every aspect of our stay. The staff, especially Josef, was extremely helpful in assisting with any traveling needs you may have---directions, restaurant recommendations and reservations, sight suggestions etc.

The hotel is immaculately clean and the room we stayed in--003---was very large with an exceptionally nice terrace which looked out over all of Lisbon. After touring the city for an entire day, it was wonderful to return to.

While the hotel is well maintaned, it is not the Ritz Carlton and is a bit dated in its decor. However, everything is absolutely clean and well maintained. It is a good half hour walk to the center of town and longer coming back up fairly steep streets. However, the 28 tram takes you about a block away. (Beware, it is almost always very crowded, but the ride is not long.) A taxi should be under five euros.

There are several very reasonable if basic restaurants in the area where the fresh fish is
absolutely delicious and frequented mostly by locals. We particularly enjoyed O Paridiseo where we ate for about 25 euros with wine (that is not a misprint.) We ate at several other places for three times that amount where the food and service were inferior.

Two sights you might include which are not on the A tourist list, but should be, are the Palacio dos Marqueses de Fronteira and gardens (get very explicit directions) and the Museo Nacional do Azuejo, which is the national tile museum.

If you do not mind staying a bit away from the center of town, I would recommend this hotel without hesitation and would stay again if returning to Lisbon
