“Ideal base for a stay in Lisbon”
Reviewed 9 August 2014

The Dom Carlos Park was an ideal place to stay for a short break in Lisbon. The rooms are a little dated but are spotlessly clean and a reasonable size. The beds are firm but comfortable. Breakfast is a self-service buffet which should suit all.
The hotel is very close to the metro and only a 20 minutes walk from the city centre also the hop-on, hop-off tour buses starting point is within 200m. .

My family and I stayed at this hotel in August 2014. We occupied 3 rooms for a few days. Unfortunately on the second day, while we were away, our suitcase was unlocked and the amount of 3000 dollars, 2000 euros were stolen from our locked suitcase. The event was reported to the police, the receptionist confirmed that only 2 persons could have accessed the room. Maybe it is our fault that those values should have left at a safe, but we trusted the reputation of the hotel and were assured that nothing would happen as the suitcases were locked.
Only 3 days after we got a mail from the management who seemed to have taken no action. The message simply said that they were investigating what happened, that values should have left in the hotel central safe, that they had no responsibility and looking forward to our next visit!
Needless to say that this event spoiled all of our holidays and that we were extremely disappointed with the hotel attitude!
We are never coming back!

I have stayed for a week at Don Carlos Park. Hotel's staff are very nice and ready to help. My room was of good size with several drawers for storing clothes.
I could walk to the center without feeling tired. To go back to hotel it is every ease and the underground has a stop very near the hotel.
Breakfast is substantial and tasty: eggs, sausage, juice, brown and white bread, cake and portuguese pastry.
Wireless internet makes your life easier and is available for free.
Very good cost benefit

We recently spent 3 nights at the Dom Carlos. We arrived at 12:30 PM from our trans-atlantic flight and were delighted that our room was ready. Yes-we also found rooms on the small size, however, very clean. Our beds were very firm-no problem for us, however, some might not enjoy. We loved the location only a 5 minutes walk from the major hop-on-off bus starting point. We in fact purchased our tickets at the hotel desk. All staff members that I had contact with spoke excellent English and were very helpful. We were delighted to find a small grocery store (open 9 am-9 pm) about a flat 3-5 minute walk from hotel. This market had an excellent produce section and importantly water, beer, soft drinks and wine for sale. Small bottles of water sold for about .12 euros of 9 cents. There are many restaurants within a 5 minute walk and two within 50 yards. There is free wi-fi with a speedy connection. The only negative is that there a 4-5 steps from the street level to the lobby. This is the only entry that I saw. Also the shower is a tub/shower set-up, so someone a mobility issues may have problems. There is a fitness center at sister hotel about a 5 minute walk. Finally the included breakfast is VERY GOOD. I think the serving hours were 7-10:30 AM.

The hotel is centrally located and, if you like to walk, is within 20 minutes of many tourist destinations. Desk staff were really helpful. Good restaurants nearby and metro right outside. Hotel is just off the Marques de Pombal circle but on a quiet street so street noise is not a problem.

Over the years I have stayed many times at Hotel Dom Carlos Park in Lisbon. And I have no major complaints. Its location, so near the monument of "Marquês de Pombal" and the "Eduardo VII" park, makes it ideal for first timers. All touristic buses leaving for sightseeings in or out of Lisbon depart from the square in front of the monument, just a short walk away. On the other hand, Lisbon old center ("Baixa", "Chiado" and "Cidade Alta") are at a longer distance and you can either walk (20 min) or take a taxi (principally in the evenings, as I find the Avenue of "Liberdade" quite dark). The hotel is basic and pretty much dated, but its rates sound very convenient. There are, of course, much better options, but depending on your budget, it may be the right option. Give it a try.

Room Tip: Rooms not facing Avenue of Liberty may be less noisy.

The room we got was incredibly small, with a view of a dirty wall (next building), quite old furniture and incredible noise coming from outside throughout the whole night. We could not figure out what it was, but it sounded like an extremely loud air-conditioning just outside the window (despite the fact that ours was off). You cannot open the window and the air is very very dry (putting on aircon makes the situation even worse of course). The hotel is about 20 minutes walk from the centre.
On the bright side, it was clean (especially the bathroom was spotless), there was a daily cleaning service, functioning TV with all the news channels in English, and the breakfast was nice- meat, eggs, cheese, bread, cake, fruit, cereals and yoghurt (dont expect any vegetables).
People at the reception speak limited English, but it is possible to communicate.
We paid 60 euros a night for two people. If you are charged more, I think you could find a better deal.
