“Good, but there were issues ...”
Reviewed 9 December 2009

Firstly, this has the potential to be a great boutique hotel. It is ideally located, with great views, friendly staff and a very good breakfast (included in our rate).

However, we had problems. Firstly, having booked (and had confirmed by email from the hotel) twin beds, the room didn't have them, so we were moved. Then in our second room, we could not get the heating to work. After being told someone would come and see to it, no one came but we had a call to say there was a problem and they would send extra blankets for us. We went out for dinner, came back, and of course there were no extra blankets delivered. Another call to reception, and the blankets appeared. The heat never did work for the whole of our stay!

Then there was the funny smell from the bathroom. It had a drain in the floor which smelt terrible and if the bathroom door was left open, it permeated the whole room. Call to reception met with the response, someone will come up - they didn't until chased to send someone. They put bleach or something down it which didn't cure the problem, but we couldn't face being moved to a third room.

On the plus side, though - breakfast was very good, we got a great rate from hotels.com and there was free wireless internet in the room.

The hotel was good, but our stay had issues, which were not dealt when we drew them to the staff's attention.

Booking a hotel in a place you've never been before can be a bit nerveracking but the IDH lived up to our expectation. Right in the middle of the Rossio, it's perfectly located for all areas. We were impressed by its cleanliness and decor. Breakfast was great and served until 11 (always a good thing). Perhaps the only thing that they could have improved on was having more staff in the hotel bar - or even just a bell to let them know you're there! Other than that, we had an excellent stay.

Stayed at this hotel for two nights after a 10 day Mediterranean cruise that ended on Nov 19/09 in Lisbon. Great little boutique hotel that had different decorative themes in each of five floors. Room was very clean, simple but nicely decorated, Location could not be better, as it is a stone's throw away from Rossio Square, many shops and eateries. Only negatives are lack of kleenex in room and use of black toilet paper, which is different, but a bit disconcerting, coming from Canada where "white is right", as far as tp is concerned. lol. Overall, all eight of us were very satisfied with this hotel and would definitely recommend it as a great deal for the money.

Hotel in excellent location, easily accesible via the metro link. Very close to sightseeing areas, restaurants and bars. The quality of the room was good, only marred by the usual lack of "anywhere to put anything " in the boutique type hotel. The designers seem to forget that we actually need space for toiletries etc. as well as things looking good. Leaving that small blip aside, we had a brilliant few days in a great city as did many fellow Evertonians!
If I had a negative to say about the hotel in general it would be the reception staff- note to Manager- they don't just have to look good, we would also like a smile and a bit or service!! It is not sufficient to perform your duties in a perfunctory manner relying on the hotels looks to carry things off!( exception of the reception man in the glasses, not sure of your name who actually managed a smile at least once during our 2 night stay)

The room at the Internacional Design was absolutely spotless, surprisingly quiet given the busy location. We stayed on the Andy Warhol floor - hot pink walls with high lacquer white furniture. You can walk to everything. About 50 metres away on the main street was a wonderful gourmet store (Manuel Tavares) where we bought vintage port / honey & jams to take home - a 10+++ - make sure you visit the basement wine cellar. On the side street, rua Augusta, we ate at the same cafe every day for breakfast - gorgeous bowls of fresh fruit, espresso coffee, and great pastries - I don't recall the name, but just look for the several hundred custard tarts in the window & local Lisbonites standing along the huge U shaped counter - we loved its casual local ambiance. The Confeiteria Nacional was a tourist trap & huge disappointment (about 100 metres away). They double charged my Visa (and didn't credit back despite 5 emails & phone calls) and the boxes of chocolates we took home for friends oxidized white (which generally means they're old). That was embarrassing. On the other hand, the hotel recommended "A Travessa" - a truly romantic spectacular restaurant which is difficult to secure a table. Choose your own wine - the waiter recommended a superb (but ridiculously priced) one. On the same tiny street as A Travessa were some splendid local restaurants which we weren't able to return to ... try to visit the street and walk along to find other smaller charming places to eat.

The best location, on the fringe of the Baixa, within easy walking distance to most attractions, Bairro Alto and Alfama. The trams and train station also very near. The hotel is very clean and relatively new. We had a "large" room which was 17 meters squared, not large by american standards but typical for Europe. We had room 407 on the pop floor which had a great little balcony overlooking both the Rossia and praca da Figueira. Great views of Castelo de Sao Jorge. I believe the small and medium room were 12 and 15 meters respectively. I t was worth the little extra money for the larger space. The decor is pink and white in the pop rooms, right down to the hot pink toilet paper. Very good breakfast, but a little pricey at 15 euro. Very helpful staff and Rodrigo made great drinks in the bar. Overall, it was a very cool place, a good value for the money and highly recommended.

This hotel is in the praça do Rossio, that is very busy and noisy. However, the rooms could not be quieter. The hotel has great rooms for the price and a friendly and helpful staff. I would certainly recommend this hotel.
